We have had a wonderful experience at EBS! My child had an IEP in public school and I was nervous about enrolling him at a private school, but EBS has far surpassed my expectations. I feel like my child has learned more in the first few months of this school year than they did in the previous two school years, mostly because EBS has motivated them to be excited about learning. The school has helped them met and surpass all learning and social goals that were on their IEP, just as part of the normal school curriculum. Teachers are knowledgeable, warm and accessible.

EBSB is a very nurturing community for these middle school boys. The teachers and staff are professional, positive, respectful and supportive of students and families. So grateful my son had the opportunity to attend.

We feel so fortunate to have discovered EBSB for our son. He started there this year in 6th grade and its been the best decision and investment we could have made for him. He looks forward to going to school everyday, was instantly an active and welcomed part of the community, and really feels ownership and pride in his education. You will not find a more dedicated and creative set of teachers who really love what they do--and are fantastic at it.If you find your son just isn't engaged in a traditional school/classroom I highly encourage you to check out EBSB and see if it might be a fit.

We NEVER have the "I hate school conversation," which we regularly had during grammar school. That doesn't happen for everyone, but it's worth noting. This is what it means to raise a young man.We are thrilled with the experience EBSB has provided our youngest son. While his older brother does great in a more traditional public school setting, not all children learn the same way. EBSB engages the student in their headspace. EBSB understands that each child's needs can vary, and they have built the program so that these needs are fully met. Given that the grade sizes are smaller (30ish) and the smaller classes 12-15ish, the students have more opportunity for 1:1 attention and independent study. We've also been fortunate enough to have two other family friends send their boys there and happy to say they are definitely prepared for high school. Highlights (in no particular order)1. Staff - Dedicated professionals who can embrace their own passion for helping children grow educationally and socially that can be overlooked in traditional public schools.2. The right traditional curriculums but taught by encouraging boys to think, not simply memorize something. 3. Accountability - The boys are taught to be accountable for not only their school work but also their behavior. The level of social and emotional support to work through disagreements is beyond impressive. 4. Workshop - Saws, hammers, welding, what else can we say?5. Capoeira - Our son loves body movement and workout

As middle school approached, my anxiety as a parent increased daily. My son, having ADHD had been struggling in the public school system and the thought of him being overwhelmed in a large middle school felt like the the worst option for him.Honestly, East Bay School for Boys was a scary move for me as well. Would an all boy school give my son a balanced social experience? Would the school turn him into a “guy” rather than a man? Would he get the nuanced academic support he needed in a private school? The choice to send him to EBSB is one of the best things I have done as a father. His middle school years have been amazing. Because of the school’s focus on emotional openness, respect and kindness, my son is—before my very eyes, growing into the compassionate young man I know he can become. EBSB bolsters his self-esteem and confidence daily, and his academic progress is far beyond what I expected.

My son, in 8th grade now, has had an excellent experience at EBSB. Teachers have inspired him to learn more about his classroom subjects, given him extra work when he's needed it, and he's now looking forward to applying to high school. Work class is so much fun and teaches him to have pride in his work. Projects in science, math, and humanities have been engaging, from a 3-D model of an animal cell to a math game of his own creation. Spanish class included a stop motion animation project. EBSB is a place where he's been able to be a silly middle school boy while at the same time be a serious student. Dana Rosenberg, the Head of School, is fantastic- kind and caring paired with a vision to lead the school into the next decade.

So glad we chose EBSB to help our son grow in a caring environment where he is challenged to try hard work and supported to see he can do it.

Very good. The transition to middle school was challenging for our son and we have felt that we had a true partner in the school.

The staff is very inviting and helpful, and my son is positive and happy. He is enjoying his experience as a 6th grader thus far. It was a very easy transition for him.

just mentioning that we are looking at the school and it serves 6-8th grade, not just 6-7th.
