Do yourself a favor and try to avoid this school at all costs. The Air Force needs to revaluate how they determine which towns will staff/support the elementary/middle school on Hanscom. Currently, k-8 falls under Lincoln School District. The current contract would be better negotiated with a town like Bedford who can adequately support the diverse needs of this unique population of students. Expect your child to not only be bullied by other children, but by the staff as well. While the building is nice, the school needs a major staff overhaul.

My son has had 4 successful years at this school and had great teachers every year.

I think that this school needs a lot of work. The teachers do not care about the students, and there are many instances of racism and bullying. I would not recommend sending your child here, especially if they are a person of color. The school was clean though.

My son has had a very happy and successful 5 years at this school. He is very well prepared for high school.

This school has been amazing for my three children. They previously had attended a local private school which destroyed their love for learning. The reviews here do not do HMS and HPS justice. No need to shop around for a rigorous curriculum. Hanscom teachers rock! We have extended our stay just for this great school!

Just an amazing experience all around. My child has grown in all academic areas, including those she has struggled with in other schools.

Great school with so many opportunities to grow as a student. The teachers and principal are very involved with the day to day activities as well. The students are always challenged, and will succeed as long as they try.

If you have a middle of the road child this school will be great. However, if your child or children are well above-average and require additional educational challenges. Be prepared to supplement because, they will not receive these challenges from a majority of the staff. If you have a child in need of detailed special education services. Be prepared for continuous pressure to place your child in an alternative school. Which places your special needs child on some form of transport an average of 2 hours per day, just to attend school.

My child is fortunate to have been able to attend this school. The staff (all of them) have so much compassion for Military children they go above their job duties to make them feel welcomed and at home. The class sizes are small allowing each child individualized attention throughout the year. The curriculum is excellent and the communication with parents is stellar. You picked the right school if you are moving to Hanscom. My only complaint is the PTO, but this changes yearly and is 100% dependent on the parents participation.

This school is amazing. The principal is amazing as well as teachers ( the teachers I have had contact with). We are a military family that moves every two years and for the first time I am relentlessly trying to stay here for the sake of the school.. I personally am thankful to all within Hanscom Middle and Hanscom Primary. I only wish that some parents would stop complaining and be more involved.

I can't say enough good things about Hanscom Middle School. This school is full of dedicated and loving teachers and staff. They truly love and get to know your child and strive to meet their needs. The opportunities given to the students at this school are huge because of its small size. Good job HMS!

I am not impressed at all with this base school. It is not warm and welcoming at all. I would say that the learning environment is the same. My children at this school can't wait to move! I have had several encounters with the secretary, principal and teachers; never have I felt so out of touch with my children's education. I would suggest looking elsewhere! My only positive would be that the choir teacher is amazing and does his job! There are a couple other teachers that are good, but nothing to write home about.

Hanscom Middle School is an amazing school with great leadership and innovative, caring, and enthusiastic teachers and students. Our children love being part of this close-knit community. The MA test scores may reflect children who recently moved to MA and are adjusting to MA curriculum that may be different from their previous schools and the unique elements of MA standardized tests and scoring. Teachers immediately evaluate all new students and teach to their needs. After a year in the school, with the dedication of the teachers, our scores improved dramatically. The school also offers additional learning opportunities for advanced students. The building is old, but there are plans for a new school coming soon. The teachers and staff are compassionate to the lives of children of military members. The students are supportive of each other and quick to accept new students and make friends. This is a very special school.

I'm in high school now and have since moved, but I found seventh and eighth grade at HMS to be my favorite years of school and to this day miss it dearly. Everyone is a military child so they're very accepting and kids become friends fast. Also its very small so everyone knows eachother and there are very few cliques. I think it depends on the student because my sister went there too and wasnt very social so didn't really benefit, I on the other hand was the complete opposite. It's true that they only have little to offer outside of academics, just because its a small school. I absolutely loved my teachers, so nice. And a great science program. Overall, it was a great school. Everyday when I woke up I looked forward to going. I would definatley recommend it.

Lincoln Administrators should be so professionally proud of themselves. Taught students by example how to successfully administrate governments funds for military contracts and show the children how diversity can bring federal relief funds. So proud of all of you.

Hanscom Middle School went through a major transformation last year with the hiring of a new Principal. If you ask the students, parents and staff it was a very positive change. HMS is also working on building plans for a new school starting in 2011. In regards to MCAS scores, the data of interest is the individual score along with the number of years enrolled at Hanscom, that would tell the true story. HMS is a good school, the new Principal has heard the parents, but we need to continue to make sure that the Lincoln School Committee understands our needs.
