After multiple attempts to try and get the administrative to do their job I had to threaten to go to the media for them to actually take action. They won hundred percent let my child fall behind and didn’t care. The only reason they got a one star is because their preschool teacher and kindergarten teacher we’re wonderful. The administration failed my special needs child. I have also physically witnessed two students fighting at the end of school right after the bell while walking to the bus. Two random parents that weren’t even the parents of the students fighting had to break up the fight while the administration acted as nothing had happened and put the girl that was targeted on the bus to go home.

So far our experience with Wheeling Elementary School has been awful. We have been more than understanding with the pandemic and everything going on; however our issue is with the lack of communication between the school and the parents. Despite the pandemic, the school, teachers and staff should still be able to communicate with parents, more so during these unprecedented times. The last minute communications or no communications have been extremely frustrating and have happened all year long. The school is convenient because it is close in proximity, but on an academic and parent involvement level they fail miserably. I have been a huge advocate for teachers my entire life and have never encountered a school that is so disorganized, not consistent with policy or communication and involves parents as little as possible. Considering relocating schools; however I heard this school was going to turn into a STEM school since their failing at meeting the standards, so hanging on for hope of getting our son into the STEM program. Be aware and don't have high hopes for this school and those working in it.

Wheeling is the best... The support from the teachers and the principal is like no other.

I give this school the highest rating there is, between the Principal, every single teacher, and staff member you just feel welcome and loved when you enter their doors. There are so many opportunities to get involved in your child's education and they are always encouraging the parents to get involved. There are great after school tutoring lessons if your child needs a little extra help. The school also welcomes the entire family to come on several occasions throughout the school year for fun parties. I will always and forever be a parent of a Wheeling Explorer!

I'm impressed with the leadership at Wheeling because of their focus on equitable outcomes for their students. The teachers truly care about their students and are invested in improving their practice. The staff are friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable. Wheeling is one of the best schools in APS.

Highly recommend this school to friends and family because the diversity among students and student to teacher ratio, the staff and faculty are there to truly help our children succeed and make learning fun for them. The close relationship you will build in the school family is amazing.

This is one of the worst 100 elementary schools in Colorado (917 total). The Most of the teachers are awful, especially the kindergarten teachers. I think the teachers there now return because expectations for them are so low. It is an IB school and about 70% of the kids are latinx yet they hardly translate their website. Seems like admin have no clue about ESL or Special Education - very unimpressive admin. I would never ever let my children go to this school.

Although this school has had issues in the past, I can honestly say that the administration and staff are working very hard to overcome these challenges. By encouraging Parent involvement I think they are on the right track. No school is perfect, and there will always be those who criticize. But instead of pointing out problems, parents need to join the staff in becoming problem SOLVERS. My experience with Wheeling administration and staff has been excellent. They have been more than willing to listen to my concerns and brainstorm with me to find solutions. I appreciate each encounter with the school as being productive and actually quite inspiring. I encourage parents moving to the area to meet with the administration and staff, make your own assessment. I believe you will find a home for your child. My grandson loves Wheeling and always comes home with positive stories of his learning experience. I especially appreciate that this school has active classes in Art and Music to balance out their curriculum. Give Wheeling a chance. You won't be sorry.

Overall Wheeling is a great school and I wouldn’t choose anywhere else to go to for elementary school. Teachers are very supportive and the diversity with the teachers and students is big so every where you turn there will be someone who looks like you. They encourage students to take a stand and to fight for what they believe in even when they are being knocked down. Students of all ages are going through stuff from mental health to things that don’t have to do with school but at Wheeling there is always a staff member or students to lean on because Wheeling is not someplace you drop off you child or someplace you learn things that you are probably not gonna ever use in your life, because if it was then there’s no point. What Wheeling is, is a school

My granddaughter attended kindergarten last year and her teacher was amazing. She recognized her need to be pushed and now she is almost reading at a 2nd grade level. The support the school offered to its families was over and beyond. Looking forward to the seconds granddaughter starting next year.

My child started at a charter school and within a few months I moved him to Wheeling. It was the best decision that I could have made for my child to have a successful school experience. All of the teachers and the administration at Wheeling have been extremely supportive in making sure that my child’s needs are met.

Our experience at Wheeling Elementary was the best! Their happy environment and kind and caring staff are characteristics that any school would envy. Mr. Ramon Carson, their fabulous principal, is an excellent leader who appreciates every student, his entire staff and the Wheeling community. Great schools begin at the top, and that is why Wheeling is among the best!

I would rate this school very high. Definitely one of the best buildings in the area. I would highly recommend this school after working in various buildings in the area.

Coming from another country, we don't hear many good things about schools in USA. When I had to choose a school, I heard a lot of negative things about APS and Wheeling. I wasn't sure about putting my child in this school. But after 3 years in this school I can say that my kid is doing great with her studies and she says that school is her favorite place. I like that the teachers talk about making sure kids learn the math and writing they way that they need to. I also like that they have events that parents can visit to learn about the school. Sometimes the events are just for fun. I like this because it helps me learn about the other parents of the other kids. I will bring my other child when she is old enough.

I have never worked at a school where the entire staff has returned the following school year.

Our student reported ongoing bullying to his teacher, and the teacher just sent him away. My student then proceeded to ask to speak to the principal to ask him to intervene, and the teacher on duty said “No, you go through me.” We are just so thankful that there are only two more days left with our kid stuck helpless and undefended in this class. It’s no wonder our school systems are suffering such great tragedies when reported bullying goes unaddressed. This kid has pushed our son down on the concrete giving him road rash, called him “gay,” told him his name means the F-word in Spanish, etc. Praying that troubled kid has an adult brave enough to confront him before he becomes a troubled youth with a lot more dangerous potential.

5 is my rating. I am giving this evaluation based up on an independent review of my self and not comparing the school with other schools around. I even enrolled her little daughter at the school for same exact reason.

0 stars if possible. My experience with this school is one word: AWFUL! Administration is incompetent, staff is okay. Do yourself and your kids a favor, choose ANY other school but this one
