In all honesty, I did not feel like this was a school, I felt it was more of a hangout where students went to socialize. So many skip school, and would bully you if you did not fit into their standards and the staff would actually reprimand you if you "tattled".

Terrible they allow bullying. They need to take it way more seriously. Not a safe environment at all.

I'm new to public school and it's over whelming im a freshman currently and can I just say Gateway is very disappointing. Everyone does drugs and there are always fights . The education is not the best, classes get boring very easily few teachers truely do care but besides that I would just like to say not enough students get the attention they need for education or anything else I walk into the school doors every morning with such an unwelcoming and depressed vibe and it makes me dislike coming to school everyday.

I am an alumni. 10 years ago, I would have given Gateway a 5. When I attended there, it was the best thing for me. As a teen suffering with anxiety and depression, I had incredible support from the staff and counseling department. Their drama department was exceptional. Art programs were exceptional. English and science departments were exceptional and they had an AP psychology program that sent me to college miles ahead of everyone else. Hearing people bad mouth my school always hurt me because it was my family. But... I have been there since. Multiple times for professional reasons. And all the teachers I knew have left -- for good reasons. The academics are not what they once were, and my sister, who graduated two years ago, was miserable every day. She wanted to speak to counselors and they turned her away. She suffered deeply from depression due to bullying and they said she was faking to get out of class. There were days she didn't want to go to school because the administration was so rude to her. The only peace she found was in orchestra class. That instructor was good to her and the 3 stars are his. This is not the Gateway it was 10 years ago.

The ups are that's the school has goods students. Very kind students, I should say. The downs that are badly affecting the student to my opinion are most of the staff. The staff is terrible. Especially the IB coordinators, they have no respect and care for their students. They only care about theirselves. Another problem about this school, crowded hallways. My son complained about being late to class 4 times in a row, because his teacher refused to dismiss the class early enough to go to his next class. Instead they were dismissed on time, causing them to get stuck in hallway traffic! That's just ridiculous!

I'm a new student at this school and I strongly hate everything about Gateway High School. All the students are on drugs and are just nasty people. There is a lot of gang activity, and violence. The teachers influence this behavior and there is no discipline or rules enforced. I came from a school that had more students and it still functioned better and had better academics.
