A hidden gemWe came from a great local private school but wish we had known how amazing Walker was sooner. The staff, the faculty and the resources are unbelievable. There’s art, and music, and social awareness circles, a sensory room, an amazing library, and so much more. This school isn’t for just one kind of child, it’s truly set up and eager to meet every child where they are. We feel incredibly fortunate to have a public school with so many amazing offerings.

My child has attended Walker for 5 years and every teacher has been a joy to work with. They have always been respectful and willing to help with any problems our child may be having. Additionally, their approach to teaching how to learn and think out weighs their focus on test scores is really becoming evident now that my child is older. His test scores are great, but more importantly he is truly grasping high level concepts.

Both my children went to Walker K-5. We loved it and felt a part of a strong, inclusive community. Our children grew to be kind, respectful deep thinkers who valued relationship, education and communication. The teachers, staff and administration showed great care and intention. I felt they knew my children well yet pushed them to be stronger and grow academically.

We were there for 3 years and had two teachers. Our third and fourth grade teacher was excellent. She genuinely cares about children and is a shining light on our experience at Walker. We were fortunate to have her. Our second grade teacher, though people say she is a good teacher, was mostly apathetic to my child's special needs. He spent most of the second grade in the back of her class. I took him out midyear because she was ignoring and shaming him by ignoring him and sitting him in the back of the class. The principal was generally available - if you made it clear you weren't going to leave until you got to speak to her. I did not get the feeling that she put much weight on what I thought about the direction my child's education should follow. I thought she was dismissive. I think she is a big reason that school scores the lowest of all schools in Ashland.
