We moved from Austin TX primarily for a better special needs environment for our child. There might not be huge football and baseball stadiums like Texas, but the overall education and quality of teachers has been well worth the move.

They lost my child 2 times. The teacher informed me through email, hours after school was out. I contacted the principal, she had no information about it, and it took her weeks to respond. I then started asking question and having meeting between teachers and principal. They were not able to give my child the opportunity to be in that school. I was extremely disappointed.

I absolutely adore Helman school. My kids absolutely love it. I currently have 5 kids attending. One of my children has an IEP in place. The school administrators and staff were very proactive with it. They were in constant contact with me regarding her learning needs. They even added things into the IEP that I would have not even thought about. This is our 3rd year there and every single teacher my kids have had has been phenomenal. My kids feel loved and well cared for. Helman focuses on the child as a whole and not just academics

Horrible. And I watched many good families leave for the same reason. Overall the teachers and aceademics are excellent but they are not friendly they are stressed out and rude. They are rude to parents who try and help donate their time and money too. They have a clique mentality and turns many good people away.

Helman is a wonderful school. Dedicated teachers and parents make this an ideal learning community. The teachers care deeply about their students and the PTA is amazing. While the curriculum is designed to be appropriately challenging for where the students are, development of the whole person is paramount. We moved to Ashland for the schools, and this school exceeded our high expectations. Bravo!

Warning to any parent that has a child with behavior issues: This school will be an absolute nightmare. I moved my child to Walker after two months of having to pick my son up from school every other day for "severe behavior." His new teacher said "I have seen none of the behaviors described by his other teacher." He finished out the remainder of the school year with hardly any issues at Walker - he had a whole team of dedicated staff that made sure he was welcome and integrated. At Helman he was ostracized and demonized. I spoke to another parent and she has almost the exact same experience with her son. This school is geared more toward compliant children with at least one parent that doesn't work outside the home. They schedule events and concerts during normal business/working hours. This school is fantastic for a niche of people - doesn't serve the entire community as a public school funded by the WORKING TAX PAYING parents should.

This school is amazing. I attended it for fourth and fifth grade, and in it I shared the best memories with the teachers and students. The atmosphere of the school is so clean, fresh, and fun. My teachers would always hang out with everyone, and both always had a smile across their face. This school will always be a big part in my educational life, and the stuff i've learned in it will always stay with me.
