I have two children at Meikeljohn Elementary and could not be happier with the staff and school. Every teacher has been wonderful and my children are thriving. The entire community is supportive and caring. Highly recommend this wonderful school.

From my experience, the teachers are very engaged with their students and enthusiastic in their teaching. I have witnessed some bullying and I’m not confident it was addressed in a way that significantly improved the outcome. At times it seems the bully was given too much leeway. The social emotional learning aspect of the school, while it’s great to have a program that addresses this, needs development to become stronger. One particular area for improvement this year is the rollout of the new math curriculum. Seems neither the administration or teachers are equipped to help parents guide their children though this new program at home. I imagine it’s much different than the way most parents learned math, so readily available parent resources and more communication about the program, how it’s working, and what we can do to support our kids is much needed. Overall, Meiklejohn is a great school, with friendly and invested teachers and staff, a very supportive community, and a beautiful location to boot. I think special attention is needed in growing social emotional and counseling resources, and the of the new math curriculum.

I feel the school takes bullying seriously. The administration and teachers are extremely caring. Meiklejohn is a welcoming community to all. The PTA and community engagement is phenomenal. It is a top notch school that we went out of our way to send our kids to.

There is zero diversity in teaching and administrative staff. Entire school run by middle aged white women. They do not know how to relate to, tolerate, or connect with little boys. So instead they punish. Children are not allowed to have any emotions. School also needs to get bullying addressed and under control as well. Incredibly disappointed with the lack of child development skills of their administration and teaching staff.

Meiklejohn is a wonderful school! I currently have 2 children at the school, and they are thriving and learning so much. The staff and teachers are caring and knowledgeable, and the communication is strong. Our children have been challenged, have made great friends, and they enjoy going to school. We have truly had a wonderful experience at Meiklejohn!

Meiklejohn is an amazing school! The teachers are so hard working and do their best to meet the needs of all types of learners. My daughter has attended Meiklejohn for the past two years and I couldn't be more happy. Her teachers care about her and there is a wonderful sense of community at the school. The administration is very supportive of families and staff and creates an environment that is nurturing and accepting. The expectations for students are high and students work to do their best. I would recommend (and do) Meiklejohn to anyone!

Meiklejohn elementary has everything you want in a school. Great leadership, great teachers and support staff. They communicate out school information weekly. The principal offers monthly coffee with parents as a chance to build community conversations. The best teachers are the best around. They understand you have to build a relationship with kids to get them to learn and they understand kids want to have fun.

I have been nothing but impressed with Meiklejohn. My oldest kid is now in middle school and he was beyond prepared academically and socially. The staff is committed the the education of each student and meeting their needs. Teachers are innovative in the use of technology. My younger son often comes home excited about his learning.

Amazing opportunities for both my kids. The administration is clear and effective with no tolerance for bullying. Teachers are highly effective and innovative. The art and music programs are wonderful, lots of opportunities for extensions and growth. Love this school!

The new principal & previous principal, now part-time principal, do not understand that there is systematic bullying within the school. The bullying is part of the culture of the school that has resulted in parents moving their students to alternative schools although the parents live within blocks from the school. Even worse is that Jeffco admin will not acknowledge the issues within the school environment. The issue of the bullying is kept so hush hush within the Five Parks community that it’s spoken about only in whispers for fear of further retaliation bc No One wants their child to be the next victim or the harassment to become greater against their child. School admin focuses on the response of the victim of the bullying—not the issue of the bully. Test scores don’t equate to a successful academic career when the bullying culture of the school is all that your student will remember.

The school has good teachers and luckily dedicated parents which is what makes this a good school. It is hard to get good communication from the school, especially if you are from out of state and know nothing about any of the 'special' programs that may be available for your child.

Meiklejohn is a school with dedicated staff, parents, and students. It is a high performing school and sets the bar at that level. The staff are strong and have a great deal of knowledge and support to help the students achieve at their level. The school is growing quickly and thus far has been able to handle the rapid growth.

Our daughter was very verbal and a highly distractable kindergartener-- no problem for Ms. Harris, who is amazing!! Our daughter enjoyed her class so much and came home reading at the mid 1st grade level at mid year. Principle Schrant was very involved, caring, and effective at the helm as well.

My daughter has attended this school for 5 years now and we both love it. The building and amenities are great, but even better is the teaching staff and caring support they give. The are vigilant about appropriate interactions, dealing with the potentials before there are problems, and rewarding positive behaviors. (Pizza party for the kids who come in before the bell and get to work!) So the kids are confident learners with lots of optional activities as outlets to their talents. Finally, the test scores and number one ranking in the state are just validation that this school has all the pieces together. The only thing missing is 7th and 8th grade, so she wouldn't have to go through middle school angst! I have the utmost regard for Meiklejohn.

Our son and daughter have attended Meiklejohn since it opened and couldn't be happier with the education and attention they receive there! The parents are super involved and the educators are amazing. They identify kids w special strengths, as well as those w special needs and give them both the tools they need to excel! At Meiklejohn, they care about the whole child and will help you child realize his/ her full potential. Having attended both public and private schools myself, I agree w the other reviewer who said she feels as if her children are getting the quality of a private school education at Meiklejohn. For example, kids have the opportunity to push themselves through advanced learning plans, great enrichment after-school enrichment, band/ choir/ orchestra , ameritown, theater, running club, etc. Thank you to all the committed, knowledgeable and generous members of the Meiklejohn family (from the office staff to the teachers to principal Schrant to the parents) -- all of whom make this school feel like a second home.
