The schools pretty bad, the teachers don’t care about bullies at all.

im a current student here. the schools "higher staff" do not get what is up to date. just because a hood means some bad random term back then or is "disrespectful", that doesnt mean we are doing it for that purpose. also many of the teachers punish kids in a bad way, if you yell and scream at kids and are very strict, kids wont like you. thats what it seems like some teachers do. the school is also not a good environment, as there have been 4 fights a day on some days. our " character ed" lessons are absolutely useless, and second step lessons (lessons about bullying) are useless too and have no impact on bullying. a bully is not going to stop harassing you just because you said: hey stop i dont like that, they will do it even more, if you tell the teacher, they will most likely fight you. and a "stem school" means nothing , schools in the district like falcon ridge do the exact same teaching and courses and even have a "flex" period. not the best school. -current student as of 2023

Very positive, this is our second child to go through this school, and we have been extremely pleased with all of the staff. They care!

The day we moved and had to leave VMS I cried. My child had so many great teachers. Especially Mr. Tony McNeil and the two Mr. Millers in the band program. These teachers helped my son's confidence and allowed him to actual enjoy his success in school (he is type A and a perfectionist). It's middle school, there will always be something, but this is a really good bunch of middle schoolers, teachers and programs. There isn't one aspect from our new school /state that is not less than what we had at Valley. Children and teachers are involved and care. The school has an amazing band program where I have seen not just my son flourish, but many others. Now that they have the extra funding from the STEM program and are remodeling the school will be even better. If we could go back here we would in a heartbeat.

I hate this school so much. Do not take your children here. The area they've created doesn't even look like like a school. Each class has no walls no doors. Everything is just open to one. And the bully's are so mean they tell u to do a lot of bad things and hurt yourself and make you feel bad.

We just moved to this school district and I am so happy with VMSS. The principal and the teachers work very hard to ensure the kids are successful. I have a 6th grader and an 8th grader and they both enjoy going to school each day. They both LOVE their teachers and feel safe there. The school is set up differently than any other school I've been to - very open, with lots of collaboration areas throughout. They work hard to put STEM into each classroom and give the students 21st Century opportunities each day, along with a specific STEM day once a month for the entire school. Even though this school doesn't rank very high - I couldn't be happier that we chose this school, and I brag about how wonderful it is, every chance I get!

My daughter has thrived at VMS; she has been given the opportunity to try new things and academically she has been placed in appropriate classes that challenge. I know that VMS has a bad rap but have found the school to do a great job of treating kids as individuals and preparing them for high school & beyond. They do a great job of recognizing students for hard work & good character (instead of just grades) through their Citizen Scholar program. They are also one of the first in the state to have a Nat l Jr. Honor Society program. The diversity at the school is one of its greatest strengths & weaknesses, I don't know of another place in the south suburbs that will introduce kids to what the real world looks like quite like Valley does. It helps teach them tolerance & pushes them to figure out how to work with people from different backgrounds, these are two lifelong skills. But of the flip side of that is the challenges diversity poses. With the diversity in the student body (in ethnicity, race, & economics) comes friction & struggles. But even with some of those challenges I am happy my daughter attends Valley & plan to have my son attend in as well.
