FIT Academy is a newer charter school with a focus on fitness and movement. FIT includes extra recess, movement breaks, and a weekly sports field trip in my kids' week. Being a new school, they are still building up a great community and a strong program, and I feel the direction they are going is great. The staff and teachers work so hard, go beyond what is required, and really care about the wellbeing of the children. Being a small school, it does not have the same sports and clubs that districts are able to offer. But the trade-off is a close-knit community where you can get to know everyone, and where your children are taught by the same teachers especially in the upper grades who really learn their needs.When looking at schools, please know that test scores are important, but only tell part of the story. All upper grade kids at FIT did most of their learning at other schools, so it takes time to turn out awesome scores. My children are doing great academically, and I know the school is doing their best to help the struggling kids get to grade level. Kids at fit are happy, moving a lot, socially engaged, known by the staff, and yes, they are learning a lot! FIT really looks at the whole person, not just a test score number, and that's what I want in a school. As a free public charter, they get less funding than district schools (property tax), and I think they are doing a great job with what they have.
