We are in our 9th year and 3rd child at Highland. We've watched the quality slide downhill gradually, and we're left with just an average school with poor communication and an unwillingness to embrace the 21st century. Special Ed program is excellent, GT program used to be great, but is declining. No PTO, few opportunities for parents to volunteer on an ongoing basis (just for singular tasks). Office staff isn't very friendly. The school seems tightly packed for space, and would be that way even if it had fewer students. Teachers are amazing, but seem very put upon for more and more work with less and less help from 'management'. Nowhere near as tech savvy as other elementary schools in the district. We'll be glad when our last child graduates.

We have two kids with special needs that go to highland and the teachers are absolutely amazing. They even come to home visits. When we adopted them they were years behind and they caught up to classmates within 7 months of school starting. Nothing short of Amazing. They need next to nothing for extra help anymore. They will be off services by the end of the year.

We had 2 kids go through Highland. We loved the teachers. They have a great gifted program that challenged the kids. The staff seemed to really care about the kids. The after school program through the Y was great too... Especially John! We miss him! The students are welcoming. It's a great school!

We love Highland simply because the teachers and the principal cares about their students. They always make an effort to help the kids think outside the box. It is a good school. My daughter loves the school and her teacher mrs. Jonson who has been teaching kindergarten for 23 years. You don't find an experienced teacher like this anymore. We are greatful for her.

I am not impressed. They love to fund raise but if you ask for anything out of the normal your request goes unheard by teachers and principal. Not very out of the box approach to learning.

Our children have been at Highland Elementary for 8 yrs. and we have been extremely pleased with the school, its staff, and administration. The teachers are top-notch. They are supportive, caring, and invested in the success of the children. Teacher/parent communication is excellent! The school and staff value parent volunteers. There are ample opportunities for parent involvement, especially in the younger grades, if the staff is aware of your availability. The principal has been supportive and is spoken of highly by the children. In my son's words, "The principal is reallly nice and fun. He tells you that you can do anything you want to do if you set your mind to it." And "The teachers are really great. They're helpful and treat everyone the same." We leave the Highland Elementary family with great sadness as we venture on to middle school and beyond, but we leave with many fond memories.
