I had my daughter attending since she was 5. She is first grade now and plan on attending this school until grade 6. It's a good environment. The director (Kelly) is nice and tries to accommodate all needs. Classes are clean, curriculum is great, environment is friendly. There are many ways for parents to get involved and for kids to make friends and know other kids at different levels. I would warmly recommend this school. If you care about the education your child receives, you would want to consider this school.

The stuff changes frequently. The most funny part is they actually interview your kid to see they can control everything well. Frankly, not very bad school but consider the monthly fee for this school, it is definitely over priced. The teach would treat kids differently based their backgrounds, races, and .... I do not believe it is legal to do that. Another thing some of teacher will also blame your kid(s) (teacher bullyings). The fact is that some teacher definitely needs to be trained and at least have enough patient to learn how to mange a class and how to be a regular educator. We also observed that they squeezed some very gentle families years ago. Anyway it is a fine overpriced school. If your child is silent and quiet, and does not care about how being treated, it is a good place to go.

Our first four years were great. Our last 2 years were horrible. Wish we had left when everyone else did. Our thriving elementary program went from a full lower and upper elementary classrooms to a combined 1st through 6th grade with onlyb16 kids.

The Amherst Montessori School is a wonderful school.My two children have attended the school for the past three years. My daughter just graduated from their Upper Elementary program and she feels extremely ready for middle school. She has acquire not only great academic skills but very useful conflict resolution techniques that have helped her to navigate difficult situations with peers in a peaceful and respectful manner. I am so blessed to be part of this community. I highly recommend this school.

My daughter has attended Amherst Montessori School since she was 2.5 years old. She will begin her FIFTH year there in the fall as she enters into the wonderful Elementary Program. Each year has brought different levels of growth for her. The focus on peaceful, respectful resolution of problems; the high level of academics; and the kindness and compassion the guides give make it a wonderful environment. The Montessori principles of independent learning mean each child can learn at her/his own pace and develops an understanding of her/his own, individual learning style. The beautiful, new schoolhouse also completes this excellent prepared environment for my child to learn and grow. My family has loved the school so much that I volunteer my time to serve on the Board of Directors and in that capacity it has been a wonderful learning environment for me as well!

My son has been enrolled here since 2011. His teachers really understand him, and have supported his unique development, pointing out ways for me to better support him at home, even guiding me to seek outside consultation so I could understand his needs (he is very high energy, which in some settings could be flagged as ADD or hyper). I appreciate that he is loved for who he is, not punished because of his spirit! I really like the diversity of family structure here, as well as cultural and socioeconomic diversity. It's a private school, and the tuition can limit access, but the school seems to be intent on creating a tone of welcome for all. Decent financial aid. Very happy with the care that my son and my husband and I have received here. He will be here through Kindergarten, at least.

Amherst Montessori School is a wonderful community of people and a fantastic learning environment for children. We did have a rough Spring due to an unforeseen loss of a staff member. As the incoming President of the Board of Trustees, I can report that we have recovered from this difficult time and are a stronger and more connected community. The Board is a conscious group who operates from a place of awareness and compassion. I have been a parent at AMS for going on three years and have watched my two children develop in to kind, loving, curious little people, with an absolute love for learning. Parenting is a tough job, and I feel so grateful that the staff at Amherst Montessori School are helping us to raise our children. Aside from witnessing my children develop in to extremely happy people, I have also watched them excel academically. I believe this is in large part due to the nurturing environment of the classroom, which allows them to actively learn as opposed to contending with emotional unease. The Guides and Assistants at AMS are an incredibly conscious, mindful group of people and truly understand how to help children develop their minds and spirits.

This is a school with a turbulent staff and lack of stable leadership. The education is decent, but this past spring has been a disaster.

awful. our child still has nightmares from there. there are issues they work to hide from other families. wish we had never gone there.

This is a great school. We have had our daughter in school here for ~3 years. The teachers are amazing. The new head of school is really good. She is a life-time Montessori person and very welcoming. Also, the new school building is really nice. The rooms are spacious, light, clean, etc. Some of the negative reviews here should be irrelevant now with the new head of school. As for kids going home hungry, that is just bogus. The teachers are very loving and caring. They would not allow that. I am sure this is just a case of the kid being hungry when they get home. Kids need to eat frequently.

We love Amherst Montessori School! Our daughter has blossomed since she joined the toddler room, and we can not recommend the school enough. The guides are loving, compassionate and respectful to both the children and the parents. We were concerned at first that there might be too much focus on 'work', but have found that our daughter comes home centered, creative and imaginative in ways we didn't even know she could be. We feel supported and loved in this community!

terrible school board. I watched them enable and support harassment of single parent family. educators need to understand how their negativity can harm a child's development. poor quality substitutes.

We came to Amherst Montessori knowing nothing about Montessori education - we attended an open house on a whim while seeking an alternative for our twin boys who were in public elementary at the time - we have been completely astounded at the education they are receiving and the supportiveness of the teachers, leadership and all the staff. I cannot stress enough the quality of the education at Amherst Montessori. My 9 yo boys LOVE school and never want to miss a day. They work at their own pace in a large, beautiful, sunny, inviting classroom. They take breaks when they need to - not on a rigid schedule. They have art and science and music education and spend lots of time outside. They learn to be so independent that at 8 they started packing their own lunches for school!! We LOVE the school.

We have been parents here since 2006. We didn't know anything about Montessori when we came here, but starting our daughter in the Toddler program was the best thing we ever could have done for her or us. She is now in Lower Elementary and our son is in Children's House. We've been with the school through some transitions in leadership, which was a little stressful at times but really didn't affect the quality of the teaching or what went on in the classrooms. We've all operated now out of a strip mall while the new school is built, and I've been amazed at how smoothly it's gone -- I thought it was going to be a disaster. We will move into the new building in February 2012, and the school will have a new director beginning in the summer who seems very experienced and strong. We are converts to Montessori, and will keep our children at AMS for as long as there are classrooms to serve them. The school goes through 6th grade, and anytime I ask my 8-year-old daughter if she wants to look at/go to a different school, she states emphatically, NO. So we're here for the duration.

This is an excellent School. I am a strong supporter of the Montessori experience and they do it right. Check out their new building which is opening soon. It is beautiful. The entire staff is caring and knowledgeable. They accept students from pre-school to 6th grade.

Director exhibits classism. They use outdated methods. They sent my child home hungry every day and did not let him eat enough at lunch and snacks. Director went to a Christian Scientist college, but is not loving towards others.

not worth the money. my child came home upset most days. the leadership was mean to a parent whose father had just died.
