This is the best elementary school in Lafayette Parish. The administration and teachers set the pace for the students. They engage with the students and care deeply about the kids. The academics are excellent, as reflected in the test scores and AR reading program (which is first rate, by the way). Nevertheless, the faculty assigns a manageable amount of homework...much appreciated by the parents. The school also offers kids many extra-curricular activities to help round out their experience. In all, EG is a first rate school that is a the very top of Lafayette Parish. I am thankful that my children were able to attend.

Wonderful school with caring & compassionate employees. My daughter & son had the sweetest bonds with their Teachers & office staff. We have 1 more year at Ernest Gallet and we are all sad about leaving everyone behind to go to middle school. We are so very grateful for this school. We couldn't ask for better! The Parks Family

My child is finishing Kindergarden this year and we have only good things to say about the school. School did everything they could to offer education as close to normal as possible this crazy 2020-2021 school year. Teacher stayed in touch with us whole time and was always available to answer questions (this is our first child going to school so we had move questions than average family). They did activities with kids at school for the holidays to keep kids engaged and excited. Took yearly pictures and so on. My son did not know all his letter when he went to school. He loves numbers and is very good at math, but letters was not his thing. Now he is in AR and reads his books daily. We went from 2 hours per book to 12 books in 1 hour within 2 month time. They did several different activities with kids to motivate them to read and it sure worked for Maxwell. There are comments from prior years where parents complaining about little snacks that kids take to school & comparing it to Texas. We are in the process of relocating to Texas and know first hand how much school taxes are there. After paying 10k per year in tax per property, I am not surprised to see schools providing snacks. Property tax in LA is 10 times less, so I do think that extra 10 dollars per month on quality snacks is not that big of a burden. Also, it is not a big deal if you are on time sending those with your kid and teachers do not have to chase you down. We lived in Youngsville for 6 years now and there is no better elementary school in the area.

We moved from Texas and I was looking all over lafayette to see what school was good so that I could put my child in. This school came up and I thought wow it seems great. Then I started noticing that they wanted money for EVERYTHING and I mean everything from snacks to events to everything the only free thing they offer is education (which isn't as advanced as Texas). There were many times a month when my child's classroom didn't eat snacks because other parents wouldn't pitch in so the ones who did take snacks had to take double and triple snacks a month. It wasn't fair at all for the parents who care if their child eats. Then my child's teacher quits or gets fired (they never said) I found out 2 months later that there was a sub there the entire time. They never sent out a letter or anything. I had to call and speak with the principal and she finally said they were going to send one out... Yea 2 months later? Wow I couldn't believe it. Kindergarten only got ONE field trip! JUST ONE!! those poor kids were only taken to the zoo which is down the street. One for the whole school year. The last fun year for them for their entire school years were cut short because this horrible school only planned one darn field trip for them. The only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because the staff in the office are very nice ladies. I'm so glad we are going back to Texas where the schools are much better. I feel bad for the ppl who have to stay there until 5th grade. I would consider moving houses just so they could go to a different school better than Gallet.

My wife and I went to this school yesterday. Since we will relocated to Lafayette soon, we are looking for a good elementary school for our kid. And we plan to set down our family nearby. Youngsville is a good place, but the Ernest Gallet School Elementary is not a good school, even I can call it terrible. The experience we had yesterday is terrible. As reviewed by the other parents, the front desk lady should be call RUDE. She does not know how to respect parents even the kids who are sitting in her office. I've been the other elementary schools before we came here, for example Woodvale, Broadmoor, their staff shows us how well they treat parents and their students, and I can see their teaching philosophy from the behavior. But Ernest Gallet shows us how bad they treat parents and students. I have met several of their staff, but they just stared at us seriously without smile. Indeed, they have new buildings, large library, and beautiful classroom. But I do not believe they have nice and well-educated staff and teachers. Then, how can they teach and educate excellent students? We will never send our kids to this school.

Attended this school as a child and no exaggeration is used when saying the things that happened to me at this school scarred me for life. Horrible school, horrible staff. Nothing else needs to be said.

We have our oldest child enrolled at Ernest Gallet. I'll start by saying that my wife is a teacher in the LPSS so we are very familiar with policies and inner workings of the school system. So far, we have been very disappointed with the outrageously rude office staff and her very rude teacher and assistant. These so called professional educators treat parents like they are garbage. My parents went to see my girl on grandparents day and they were subject to treatment that is comparable to a prison visit. Very cold and uncaring is the feeling that many grandparents got. The biggest problem is the constant misspelling and mispronounciation of my girls name. Not only from her teachers mouths but on her ID, as well as important certificates. Now because of the constant neglect to get my girls name correct, students are calling her by the incorrect name. When she corrects them, she is made fun of by other students.

See previous post: Now I could understand if it was once or twice. I could even look past it if it was still early in the school year. But it's not. It's December. It's on her chest everyday of the week, Also on every scrap of paper we were required to fill out at the beginning of the year. I can say that my little girl does not get in trouble, and does everything that is asked of her with a smile. She doesn't deserve Ill treatment due to the teachers lack of attention and detail. We can say there is NO CHANCE that our daughter will be back next year to this school.

This is our 3rd year at Ernest Gallet. We moved to the area for the schools. My kids have had great teachers every year. The speech therapists are great! The only issue I've had thus far is the rudeness of the front office staff, particularly the office manager. RUDE should be her first name. In general, parents are treated as a bother when you go into the front office, even if it's for something as simple as updating contact information for your child or children. Makes me frustrated my tax dollars go into paying the salaries of such ill-mannered people.

I have to say, Ernest Gallet is a wonderful school. I have two children who went to a private school here in town and I felt more at home at E.Gallet! The staff is wonderful! Everyone takes the time to get to know you and makes you feel your children are the number one priority. The school has a four star rating and the teachers really care! Thank you Ernest Gallet!!!

This school over all has become packed. Too many people have moved in around the school to be able to fit into it. My child is special needs and has been going here for 4 years. Their are new students being placed into this school almost every week. Teacher staff is professional and good but do not expect a lot of one on one attention even from sped teachers or the aids. A lot of things go unnoticed, ex, bullying, accidents, etc. The school has improved since it has gotten a new principal but they need more staff and buildings to accomadate the students as well. Parent involment goes as far as raising money for PTO. If you feel like having an extra job this is the school for you. If you feel like being afraid of calling the school to have a rude person yap your ear of or go into the office and have office staff be rude to you then this is the school for you. Upsides - professional well educated staff, nice, clean new school, money from PTO (parents) to spend on new equipment for school. Good therapists.

I wittnessed an office staff member yelling at a teacher on duty, I cant beleive someone would do ths in front of the kids and parents tat are there, that staff member is not happy with themselves they should remain home!! !f you don't like your job go some place else, the school is for our children and they need to endure happiness!!! The office staff at Gallet are unfriendly and NEVER NEVER have a smile!!! Very disappointed with the leadership of this school for not seeing what so many parents wittness EVERY TIME we are in the office!!! Please see if you as a s hook board member or leadership status could fix this problem!!! They need social skills!!!

My first experience was when this school first opened.... I enjoyed those five years however this time around, I have been treated quite rudely by the front office on every visit by the same employee ... Even during the registration of my kindergarten child, I cant imagine someone has that many "bad days" ... If this is an indication of how my next 6 years will go here... I am NO LONGER impressed and will be registering a complaint with the school board the next time and everytime this employee is rude. If an employee cant manage the social skills to interact with adults I really dont want them to interact with my child on any level. I have talked to other parents and have yet to find one that hasnt been spoken to rudely. Im rating principal leadership the problem, for not knowing this goes on in office beside his!

We moved to Youngsville specifically for the kids to attend the schools in this district. Today was the first day for the girl Kindergarteners. I found my child's teacher to one of warmth, openness, and intelligence. Her credentials were more than satifactory and I could see she truly enjoyed being a teacher. The kids immediately took to the teacher. As for the staff, I was met with nothing less than tremendous smiles and helpful attitudes. I was on campus for more than three hours. I am truly looking forward and am excited for my daughters first year at Ernest Gallet. So far this school has lived up to everything I've heard and more.

When deciding to move to the Lafayette area, I researched all of the schools in the parish and specifically moved to the area for my children to attend this school. We have two children who have completed their elementary education there. The teachers we have had are all fantastic. They are appropriately demanding of the children, very caring for them as individuals, and always willing to help with any concerns. This was definitely a great school!
