Even one star is too much for this school. Now I understand why so many families have left this school . Very disappointing.

My kids really enjoy this school. The teachers are all very nice, compassionate and so hardworking. They really work hard to engage the kids and help them as individuals. All the teachers I’ve met are outstanding and I feel so fortunate to have them as teachers.

It’s a shame that the rating for this school has gone down because it’s a wonderful school. My three kids are so happy here. Beautiful and safe neighborhood, and the teachers in all grades are so engaging. There is a strong knit parent/teacher association with excellent communication and support. The only reason the rating has gone down is because of attendance, and that’s solely to do with Covid. Most highly rated schools have gone down because of this reason.

My eldest goes to this school and absolutely loves it. Teachers and staff are great and are supportive in every kids milestone. There are extra curricular activities that my kid loves and there is no day that she doesn’t want to go to school. She loves her classmates and teacher.

My kiddo is in TK and absolutely adores her school, teachers and classmates! Parents are involved and engaged in their children’s education. The after school program is fantastic. The student body is diverse with kids from all over world!! I have read many of the negative reviews and frankly I’ve have not seen the things the reviewers are complaining about. I feel fortunate my child attends here.

This is the 7th year our family has been at WHECES and we love it. The teachers and support staff are caring and wonderful. The quality of education is high. We feel very lucky to live in this neighborhood and have this school for our kids.

Best thing to happen to our son was getting admitted to this school. Great teachers and community feel.

We chose our home largely based on this elementary school being our neighborhood school. Many of my friends send their kids to private schools around LA and hope to lottery into WHECES. The teachers are creative, caring, communicative and seem to genuinely love teaching. The school has amazing initiatives to foster an inclusive, positive, emotionally healthy environment. They reward positive behavior with fun parties and prizes, they encourage kindness with recognizing and honoring it, they use positive terms to help children learn and gain correction. My child LOVES her teachers, the helpers and the programming at WHECES. If I could choose any school I’ve ever visited and heard about, this would be my first choice by far. It also helps that most of the kids have present and involved parents who teach their kids how to be kind, encouraging and inclusive. The teachers really find creative ways to make learning fun. I have no complaints!

WHECES is a wonderful school, friendly staff and overall a welcoming environment. We are happy our kids attend this school, a lot does have to do with parents being involved. As we should, it takes a village but well worth it. We often see principal checking in with classes and kind to kids, she is present for and involved in school drop offs. Most teachers seem caring and concerned about making it fun while learning and that’s key so kids are excited to be there. The janitors take care of campus grounds, are always keeping it tidy and friendly too. They secure and take care of gate, so the school does feel very safe. I personally believe you really should walk to gate because that helps the congested feel, however I’m sure this is a common problem at all schools. I personally appreciate the apps to communicate with teachers, clear communication is essential for both them and us. Understand that there isn’t a school that is perfect. I find WHECES cares to improve and does. We happily support PATT, HERO and classrooms. Our kids education matters, we want them to thrive and feel confident they will here.

I strongly disagree with the last review. My youngest child culminated from WHECES last year and my oldest just two years before. Although both of my kids are very different academically and socially, they both grew immensely and were guided along the way by their principals, teachers, aides, and extended staff. I feel lucky that each had great teachers that took extra time to develop their areas that needed growth as well as celebrate their strengths. When peer issues came up that affected my son, immediate support was offered. His emotional wellness was a priority from all the adults that supported him. He continued to love coming to school despite peer issues. Additionally, after we returned from at home learning, Mrs. Desiderio made it a priority to integrate the arts which furthered my kids' personal development, academics, and their motivation and desire to go to school. Both kids took their six year well-rounded education from WHECES and went to middle school with the academics and more to do well without a hiccup. This school- the principal, the teachers, and staff- are more than a mere scorecard for the academic performance of third-fifth grade students for a couple days of state testing. These scores don't reflect the care and development of the TK and kindergarten students by their devoted teachers. It doesn't reveal the hours of planning and efforts of the other lower grade teachers to grow their students academically and socially. It doesn't show the teachers putting on class plays, long-term projects, and other efforts to develop the whole child. It doesn't show the additional efforts of teachers and the principal to help guide students through tough times, at-home issues, and world events that greatly affect their students' emotionally as well as academically.Just as I know my kids are much more than the score they receive in language arts, math, and science from the state test, I know that this school is more than that, too.

The information used to determine our ranking is solely taken from the state test, SBAC, for grades 3-5, which is one snapshot of information. This is not a reflection on how all of our students are progressing throughout the school year. Our school was recently recognized by our district for steadily increasing our scores through DIBELS (Language arts), Edulastic (math), and our district interim assessments (language arts and math). I am proud of our school for this recognition.

We are so grateful our kids go to the school. The teachers are so loving and caring. Academically both of my children have been challenged. The school also has wonderful staff who are always there to support because of Covid a lot of things have changed, however, the school really made it a nice transition back to school while also keeping in mind, the safety of children and parents. They have began to also incorporate a water, assemblies, fun, events, and a really wonderful arts and music program.

So glad they incorporated a mysic, dance, theater and arts program last year! My kids really enjoyed expressing themselves and looked forward to showing off their new talents. I hope to see more fieldtrips this year because kids learn better when they have fun while doing it!

When the current principal joined in 2018 or 2019 this school was a 10/10 and now its 7/10. Not sure why she does not get fired.

My kids have been with 3 different teachers in this school 2 of them were excellent teachers and one of them was just ok !There are so many kids with bad attitude and so much drama and bullying out of their control and there is not enough supervision or support .That’s why I decided to pull my child out of this school hoping to find somewhere she will feel safe and not hurt emotionally !Don’t send your children to this school if their emotional well being is important to you. There is nothing like mental heath support !!! I reported several cases of bullying, they talked to the other kids and it never ended!!! I tried anything I could but finally I decided to change the school !

Overall experience is good, my children never complained and academically thrived so far .. like every public school there is room to grow, no music program, arts and science is supported by parents .. otherwise a great school ..

Beware- this school is discriminatory based on race. Poor academics and VERY unsafe environment.

Our experience was horrid, but it’s not just this school. LAUSD stop cowtowing to the lawsuits and actually care about your students.
