The principal is more concerned with optics than actually effectively building up the school and community. She’s gotten rid of wonderful, dedicated teachers seemingly because they were squeaky wheels about her policies and practices. We can’t hold standard community events for the kids at the school if it interferes with her personal time. We were told we can’t have trunk or treat because her birthday is that month and she doesn’t want to have to be there. She expects PTA to fundraise and run events but won’t let them keep any of the money to enhance the school. She makes the teachers meet their recertification requirements on their own time and dime while other schools in the district support their teachers. I just don’t understand why anyone would choose to work in a child-focused career if they really don’t enjoy the company of children and aren’t passionate about seeing them flourish as a whole person.

Rainbow has gone down hill over the last several years. There are some amazing teachers here who truly love children but they are being stifled by administration and those teachers who are strict, mean, rule-loving are the ones who get rewarded. There is very little school spirit although the PTA is active and tries to make up for what is lacking from the head of the school. There is too much emphasis on tests, grades, and following rules. Kids need to have more freedom to express themselves. It is sad what this school does to rob young children of their natural curiosity and joy. The exact opposite of what is supposed to happen in a learning environment.

My son is in second grade and has been going to Rainbow since kindergarten. The teachers and staff have all been wonderful! I'm happy to be a part of this school.

My son went to Rainbow from K-12, he is now a sophomore in high school. My daughter now attends Rainbow, and again best administrative staff. Never have had a bad experience, when we went to meet the teacher my son (10th grader) came with us and the front office and other teachers remembered him! My daughter just started 1st grade, she loves going to school so much she gets upset on the weekends. Can't no say enough about this school, we are very lucky/blessed to have such a great school with even better staff for our children

It was a terrible year. The principal needs to go and then maybe the school would be a better place for kids. Proper leadership is so important in running a successful school, she is not doing a good job.

This school is more interested in getting money from parents than teaching the children. My son was in the 99th percent of his grade at the beginning of the school year and at the end is closer to the class average. I have had numerous requests for conferences with the teacher and the administration and they either ignore me or don't seem to be interested in differentiating his education. Worst off they send at least 2 requests for money each week. Worst school ever.

Our family relocated to the Orlando area over this past summer. After many long months of research, recommmendations & helpful advice we found Oviedo/Winter Springs to be wonderful place for our family. Our youngest daughter attends Rainbow Elementary & absolutely loves it! Gifted classes, Fantastic PTA, outside activities, & a Wonderful, Professional & helpful staff, Teachers & Administration. We are so happy with our choice!

We moved to the area almost 2 years ago, knowing Seminole County Schools hadgreat ratings, we knew it was a good school. Moving our children from the only home they had ever known, the transition was difficult at best! But, to our delight, all 3 of our boys loved Rainbow Elementary right away! They all said the curicullum was much more challenging, which was great for them, they really enjoyed being challenged!! It was, of course, a lot to adjust to, but the staff at Rainbow made them feel welcome as did the children!! They do still miss Ohio from time to time, but they LOVE their new school thank goodness!!

We are very pleased with Rainbow this year. We left our previous school due to the poor social climate and overly strict environment and now our child is so much happier and enjoys going to school every day. My child's teacher is just wonderful , and it's a very well run school with an excellent PTA with many involved parents and lots of fun, educational activities for the kids to break up the days. They have a Super Science program where parents can volunteer and guest speakers at the school which we never saw at our previous school. The only thing I"ve noticed is that they are lacking a foreign language and there are not many athletic clubs for the kids. (Only running) Other than that, it's been a great first semester at Rainbow.

This school is such an excellent school. The teachers are great and the administration is great and there is a lot of parent participation. Really great PTA with lots of fun events. My children really enjoy every day and they also participate in Runners Club and Chorus. Such a great community school!!

My son will normally be picked up by a daycare van, so thats the info i gave them. However being the first day of kindergarten i wanted to make sure i would drop him off and pick him up.. His teacher asked us parents to fill out a paper saying how they would go home the 1st day, she make sure to let us know that only applied for the first day...i put CAR RIDER,. Well i get there at 2:45pm, line was terrible! 50 mnts later i finally get to pick him up at 3:45, just for them to tell me he wasnt there, SERIOUSLY!!! They sent him in the daycare van because thats what i wrote, so i explained to the teacher what my sons teacher told me, so she said " well can u just move forward with the line, park and call the daycare TO MAKE SURE THEY HAVE HIM" WOW!!! My son 5yrs old, first day of school and he was sent in a van and with people he never seen before! Where is the safety of my son? Extremely upset how they handled the situation. She didnt even care to stay by me a few mnts to make sure he was with the right ppl, Wonder if i ever decide to go pick him up and let them know, i will have the same problem. Gave them 2 starts because at least they got the right van.VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!

We love this school. The teachers we have had so far has been amazing. Great PTA and also administration. Just hoping they become an A grade school again. I agree with previous reviewer about having more extra curricular. They started a running club last year which was very successful.

It was our first year at Rainbow Elementary. Our daughter went to a private school for Pre-K and Kindergarten and was above level when she started 1st grade at Rainbow. Our fear was that she wont be challenged and will be easily bored. However she got an amazing teacher who continued to push her and keep her challenged. As parents, we continued to challenge her at home as well. We have been very happy with Rainbow this year. Her teacher was amazing and the administration is great as well. I just wish there was more extra curricular activities offered.

Honestly, it makes my stomach turn to see all the positive reviews here for this school. It's awesome if your kid is a straight 'A' student, if you are unlucky enough to have an 'average' kid, expect to be treated like an insect. I can accept that parents have a responsibility in their children's education, the attitude at this school seems to be the parents are the ONLY ones responsible for this, and their job is just to give the tests.

This school is absolutely horrible. Both of my children were bullied by other kids every day, and the food is absolutely horrible, which I am not joking about. Some of the teachers there are quite nice, but none of them stopped other kids from bullying my children. I have half a mind to sue this school. If you love your children, do not go here.

I love this school! I had two daughters go to rainbow and one is in the IB Program in highschool and the other is been taken AP/Honor courses in middle school. Rainbow challenge the kids to do a grade higher in course work and doesn't just focus on FCAT. My son is in the first grade and is on the same path as the girls and absolutely loves his teacher. Rainbow is by far the best school in the area and for kids who want to be challenged. I'm one of several parents that supports the school by volunteering for the reading sesson and super science. I HIGHLY recommend this school to any parent.

I do agree with some other reviewers that there are a few things I would like to see improved. **However, my daughter is being challenged daily, has teachers that care about her, and absolutely loves every minute of school from the time she steps on the bus to the moment she gets off. That speaks for itself.

Unfriendly teachers and front office staff. Music teacher talks to students horrible. So happy this is my daughter's last year and this school.

We had a VERY disappointing experience for a school that is so "highly rated." They do maintain strong FCAT scores. However, for a child that is above grade level, little flexibility to deviate from the "average" State Standard curriculum is available. My child was placed in an "advanced' reading group, but it didn't utilize any above grade level materials (???) and there were no acceleration opportunities offered for math, science or social studies. I requested more than one conference to discuss this, but nothing changed--I just don't think they have the resources. I feel fortunate that my child qualified for the gifted program, but it only provides enrichment one day a week. Very sadly, my daughter's high achievement scores appeared to become quite a nuisance for the regular classroom teacher, who communicated to me that it was creating "extra work" for her to keep my daughter challenged and frustration over her being bored. I volunteered in the classroom weekly and offered any assistance needed, having been a faculty member for many years in a neighboring county. I was discouraged enough by the end of the year that we will no longer be attending Rainbow.

We love this school! It is our final year at Rainbow, which makes me very sad! My kids, for the most part, have had fabulous teachers. The staff is helpful and encourage parent involvement. Rainbow is a friendly school.
