Highlands is an amazing school! Teachers, staff and administration are knowledgable and caring. The culture is welcoming and empowering for families through the teaching of the habits in the Leader in Me program. We loved all of our years there.

This is what the administration says that they want every student to achieve:We Believe... All children can be leaders All children have genius All children can create change All children are in charge of their learning All children have voiceWe believe in developing the whole child. They lied... this school does not know what to do with kids with needs, trauma, behavior problems or delays. The teachers are good but they have NO support from their administrators. It is very sad that the kids who need patience, kindness and understanding are let down the most. This school was a very big disappointment. We will not be attending next year.

We were originally zoned for a different elementary school. After the county did a massive elementary school rezoning, we were zoned Highlands. At first I was disappointed because we had anticipated the other school, but I quickly became GRATEFUL for the change. Highlands is an amazing school, with fantastic, creative teachers who adore my kids, and a principal dedicated to student success. This year, they started a school-wide program based on "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen Covey, incorporating these leadership skills throughout the curriculum. My kids understand it in K and 1st grade. They are also giving students age-appropriate leadership opportunities throughout the school. My kids have been thrilled with their opportunities. There is a real focus on teaching 21st century skills here, including computer work in the classroom. We are so pleased with Highlands that, even though we eventually want to move to a neighboring suburb, we won't move until our kids finish elementary school.

Parents there is NO SUPERVISION on the buses at Highlands! I understand completely that the bus driver needs to pay attention to the road, however there is no ride along help in the form of a School Bus Assistant and there should REALLY be SOMEONE WATCHING these kids! My daughter is attends this school. She has been bullied on the bus since the 1st week! In Kindergarten! Husband spoke with the Principal the 1st time it happened. I spoke with Vice Principal the 2nd time. We have both spoken to the bus driver. What does the school do? They change the assigned seating. That's it. No phone calls to parents. No disciplinary action. Just move the kid to a different seat. When I use the term "bullied" I am referring to PHYSICAL VIOLENCE; scratching, hair pulling, kicking, slapping, biting, etc. Today the third and final incident has taken place. She was headbutted on purpose and arrived crying with a mouth full of blood. She will be a CAR RIDER from this day forward and once this school year is finished we will NOT BE GOING BACK TO HIGHLANDS ELEMENTARY. I am livid as I write this review. The ONLY saving grace in this whole crazy experience is that my daughter's teacher is excellent.

I cannot rave enough about this school that has become an extension of our family. The teachers are loving and kind, the academics are excellent, and the school itself is safe and clean. The entire Highlands staff is an outstanding team!!!

Highlands Elementary has the best teachers. They care about their students. If they are absent the teachers call the parents to find out why the child was absent and they immediately advise the parents of homework assignments that must be completed so the student doesn't fall behind. Great Action!

This school is excellent from top to bottom. I had to spend a year in Charlotte and my son went to a school, although rated highly academically, was a nightmare. Highlands is a breath of fresh air, teachers are excellent, everyone is very friendly, I have two children attending the school and they are both happy and doing very well. Highly recommended.
