SMS has been an outstanding school for my children academically, socially and athletically (both middle and high school). There is a true sense of belonging, togetherness and a collective desire amongst the student body to continuously improve and achieve their goals. The academics are rigorous and the teachers/advisors and faculty are all fantastic and expect a lot. The very same can be said for athletics and the coaches. My children each have different learning styles and they've been met with the correct approach to teaching that they need in order to succeed. I have witnessed and my children have received a tremendous amount of support given from teachers and coaches as well as peer to peer both in the classroom and across all athletic disciplines. My children have experienced the middle school and high school both as boarding students and as day students and have positive experiences all around. If you have a motivated child that wants to excel in every way possible, then SMS is a great fit.

A remarkably destructive experience. There is a pervasive culture of bullying, privilege and entitlement that is known and tolerated. If the student is already academically motivated and high achieving, then they should be ok; otherwise, there will be a tremendous backslide from public school. There are a few exceptional teachers but an equal number of teachers who are unfit to be in any classroom. My overall advice is to stay far, far away unless your child is one of the top skiers in the US, high academic achieving and you don't care about his or her social-emotional well-being.
