As a student (more than 20 years ago), High Mowing was the first pleasant educational experience of my life, after a variety of public, private, and parochial schools. My lower-middle class upbringing had made me a target at other schools (even public) but the community at High Mowing was supportive, without exception. I had no concept of what "Waldorf" meant prior to attending. The freedom and teaching styles allowed me to explore and build on my strengths and potential. I entered High Mowing as a B- student, and left to attend a top Engineering university.

Profit is the priority. No commitment towards families. Head of school is a ruthless bully with no consideration for the youth. Passive communication style. Very unreceptive to parental input or simple inquiries and concerns. Very adversarial towards parents. Lack of unity and community mindedness. Us vs. Them. Teachers are great. Kids are great. Those in key leadership positions do not have the skills to communicate with diverse group of parents. Financial aid students are taken on when the school is desperate and discarded callously when more money comes along. Shame on you HMS.

High Mowing School has been a wonderful experience for both my daughters, characterized by strong involvement in a caring community, inspiring teachers, a varied and excellent curriculum, and respect for the dignity and freedom of the individual. Also, it is located in a breathtakingly beautiful location high on a hill surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest and farmland - hence the name.
