My son broken his ankle at break time in morning, school did not even call parents at all. When I picked up at noon, he walked abnormal to my car, I asked what's happened? He was cried out and said I failed down at playground in break time in the morning, I went to nurse office, nurse put ice on it but I was very hurt and cried in class. I had pull car park to curb and saw his big pump in his ankle , then I took him directly to ER Hospital in HB, after Xray dr. said he got fractured. I was so shocked and sad about it because if school call parents at that time he failed in the morning, he may be not walked from class to office and back to class and walked to gate...then he may be not got worst like this. I knew that day was graduation day for 5th grader, school was busy but this is very serious problem, they should care about it, when parents trust school leave kids to school, school should takecare wells. He got back school in person in 5weeks after school shut down as pandamic, then he had at home all his summer in few months for negligent of teacher. I came back school pick up his stuff in next days, I saw manager office, then I asked WHY SCHOOL DID NOT CALL ME AT THAT TIME to take home or see dr.? Manager said: Oh, sorry, we not doctors so we dont know his hurt...OMG if they saw kids failed and cried , they should know they're hurt, they should call parents ASAP....this is very sad and bad experienced in this Westmont, we can walk to this school from home, but now I dont feel trust and safe to my kid, I move my child to an other school. I had to write down this story here, hope other parents can read message.

This school does a great job of treating each student as a valued member of the school community. My child loves all of the visual and performing arts incorporated into his school day.

Its our first year here and my children love this school. My kindergartener didn’t want to stay home sick she begged to go to school. My fourth grader loves her teacher and the principal. It’s an amazing community.

My son transferred to this school from another in the district due to the VAPA designation and focus Westmont adopted this year. The programming offered to the students is incomparable to others around. They recently received a grant to begin teaching 4th and 5th graders orchestra. They offer dance and music as well as opportunities for upper grades to perform in their yearly musical. Recently the school purchased keyboards to go along with their ST math program. My son had a wonderful experience at his previous elementary school but he never expressed the positive feelings that he currently does on a daily basis. Every single day he wakes up excited to go to school and every afternoon he exclaims that it was his, "BEST DAY EVER!!!" I am an educator in our district and can personally attest to the amazing teachers and leadership at this school. Transferring my son to this school has been the best decision we ever made.

I have 2 children who just recently started school at Westmont. Both of them really like their teachers, and enjoy being there. Having met their teachers, other school administrators, and the principal - I’m very comfortable that this is a good place for my kids. Recently I met with one of the teachers and the principal to evaluate what appeared to be a bullying incident, and both the teacher and principal were VERY serious about getting to the bottom of the concern. The same day they took steps to understand and address the situation, and their feedback helped me better understand the situation and the steps taken to resolve it. I strongly urge any parent concerned about possible bullying at this school (or any school for that matter) to work with the administrators with an open mind, and keep following up if the issue continues. I’m convinced that bullying isn’t tolerated at this school, teachers and staff are focused on what is best for each student at the school, and parents who will openly engage with administrators on any concerns will find them to be very receptive, responsive, and effective in solving problems whether big or small.

My personal experience with this elementary school isn't recent, but it was amazing. Had no problems with it years ago.

My daughter attended here in kindergarten. She got bullied very badly by a boy who was 3 times her size. On a rainy day she got pushed & fell in the mud when they got released. She was crying & I was so upset. It was a Friday. She was so traumatized she didn't want to go back to school Monday so I spoke with the principal about the bullying. She said she would fix it. I bring my daughter back & when I picked her up she told me the same boy knocked her snacks off the table during recess. This was the final straw for me. I went to the district only to be ridiculed. I ended up having to take her out & be in private school until she got transferred to Circleview the following year. This school is horrible! Don't bother. They don't take bullying seriously.

My experience with Westmont has been a wonderful experience. The principle is such a good person who gets involved with the students ad well as the parents. They go above and beyond for the students. This is our third generation child to attend Westmont and hopefully will have more to come. All the parents are like family and any concerns we have are dealt wirh right away.

Always was and always has been one of the best schools around with a very caring, giving staff who are there for the benefit of the children.

My son and I are new to the school. He is in Kindergarten. I am concerned with the high number of children who cannot speak English in his class. Seems as though that will take a lot of time for the teacher and slow the learning process of those who are english speaking as a primary language. Also the school could use some love and care. Looks like it has been neglected for quite some time. Even my childs classroom does not seem to be bright and cheerful. Very small classroom for the ratio of 29 to 1. Ocean View school distict is so overflowed with incoming new students this year in all elementary schools. This school was NOT my choice as I read the test scores myself. I applied for the other schools but they were all too full. I am hoping that my son gets what he needs here and I suppose I will have to work double if those test scores are correct.

Westmont used to be one of the highest rated schools in the district. Dr. White and each year that she was the principal at Westmont the test scores skyrocket. Dr. White eventualy moved to College View also there scores are jumping! Mrs. Furman the new principal hchanges everything that Dr. White has built up. Mrs. Furman is dealing with exactly the same demographic that Dr. White did. Scores plummets 4 years in a row! Westmont is now rated second from the bottom. As a parent I'm getting beyond concerned, assuming that the district will step in and do something. But no, nothing happens, I start looking into other schools. Mrs. Furman tells me that its the english learners that are making the scores go down. Makes no sense to me as I can clearly see what the test scores are for english learners at other schools in the district. Westmonts scores are lightyears below in every single demographic than any other school in the district including the english learners that she's so quick to blame. Mrs. Furman is a nice, but she tells you one thing to your face and does another or in most cases nothing at all. We ended up leaving the school, 5 out of "our" class left because of Mrs. Furman.
