All bullying gets swept right under the rug and reworded in their own favor. Physical abuse is always a "misunderstanding". Don't let the joneses foo you

Great School. Excellent teachers who definitely care and work hard. I can’t speak to the past reviews about issues as we haven’t come across anything even close to negative here.

The teachers are effective, hands on and really care. I've seen a lot of bad older reviews. This school has (based on the reviews), completely changed. The bullying policy is very, very strict. The leadership is also effective. Ex. A kid said a racial slur on a Zoom. What ensued? The teachers talked to their kids about it and the principal sent a very straight-forward message to all of the kids. My child during the beginning said how much he missed his elementary, but after only a few days, he always came home with a massive smile on his face.

My child has been here only 4 months and is terrified to go to school everyday because of bullying, both physical and emotional. The anti bullying policy is a joke.

The teachers seem very absent-minded and non-caring. What happened to basic common courteousness? They should lead by example.

My daughter is in 5th grade. She says that the math teacher bullies a few students that don't look like us. According to the 5th grade program, they play dangerous mind games with the students. It is a shame. I understand that a group of teachers are taking a legal suit against the 5th grade teacher.

Bullying should be dealt with firmly, but it's not. The school is clean but outdated. The playground and surrounding areas need renovation.

I moved here 7yrs ago. My son started at first grade here in Westfield and is currently in the intermediate school. I have been through some issues because it came to found out my son has an IEP. With that said, the counselors, teachers, principals, have went above and beyond to help me and my son. I have a child going into their special needs program at age 3 with autism and fragile x. I have been told they are not great teachers for my 3yr old. with severe special needs, that they are quote "off the hook." Again, you cannot just get into these schools even coming from Purdue, it is not easy and the turn over rate for teachers is very low here. -My sons math teacher is from Butler University who is using the tools she learned from there and applying them. Ex; my 5th grader is using a pen in math. Reason? She says the brain is trained to make less mistakes with a pen knowing they cannot erase, plus she knows pupils issues when can't erase. Great teaching. Amazing school system, if you show the teachers you care, they are there for you. First hand experience. I am poor, single mom and would not live here if it was not for the school system.

One of the best experiences my children have had. The administration and teachers are compassionate and caring. The teachers are very fair and hold high expectations for all students.

I had a very negative experience with this school. The teachers were mediocre and the principal seemed like he lacked substance and leadership. My child never had a bad experience with school until WIS and that's when I realized something was wrong here. I tried to express my very legitimate concerns but administration didn't care, the teacher was untruthful and borderline abusive. Academically, the entire district is inferior and grossly behind. I am a seasoned parent with experiences in many schools over the years and I have to say, there is no excuse for such low expectations, average academics and poor relations between teachers, students, administration and parents. You learn a lot about people when you see how they handle things that don't run the way they want. If they can't handle facing their problems, they will never improve.

I was a little surprised when I saw such poor ratings from others for WIS. I have had 3 kids go through this school, one just this year, and we have had a wonderful experience each time. The school is very welcoming and invites parental participation. It is the perfect bridge between elementary school and middle school. The principal is excellent and passionate about making WIS an inviting place to challenge each student academically while helping them to grow socially. I currently have kids at all levels in Westfield schools and honestly WIS is one of the best.
