Hamlin is the best school you can send your growing children too, the teachers are very hands on & take in the students as if they were their own. The staff is great in the office, especially Liz!!!I couldn’t have asked for a better school, the dynamic here is something out of a Daniel Tiger episode! We love Hamlin!

My son has been at Hamlin since TK and is now a fifth-grade student. We love the teachers and staff. It is a small school that provides a lot of fun, enriching opportunities for students. The teachers are hard-working and dedicated. As readers will know, when people decide to post a negative review, it is right after they have had a bad experience and many times it is the complainers who have been rude and mistreated the staff. We are in the age of entitlement and people who feel they should get special treatment and are close-minded. Be better and do better parents. Let's be supportive of teachers who are trying their very best.

My child has gone here for more than four years now. All the teachers have been very understanding and encouraging. The school has a lot of immigrants and people of color. State testing is known to be biased towards native speakers excelling. Needless to say, the vast majority of immigrants are intelligent - the system just doesn’t know how to accurately measure that intelligence. As such, when this school is given a low rating, it is likely because it’s “not white enough”. Please run away if you’re scared of diversity!

My experience with my sons 5th grade teacher was beyond appalling, teaching straight socialist ideas on children! The worst experience ever! Beware of this school my sons 5th grade class was almost like communism prep 101

Had very bad experience. A lot of bullying and the principal is blind to the school problems.

We feel very fortunate that our son is attending Hamlin Elementary. The School Administration, Teachers and Support staff truly care about the students and work tirelessly to create, nurture and maintain a great sense of community. Hamlin Elementary has a diverse student population. There are students in General Education as well as Special Education. This is our son's third year at Hamlin. This year our son is in a General Education Kindergarten classroom and is a Special Education student. The school's Inclusion Specialist, General Ed Kindergarten teacher and BII 1:1 Support Aide work tirelessly with our son ensuring that he receives tailor-made accommodations and modifications in the classroom so that he is able to learn at an appropriate pace and build a strong foundation for his future academic requirements. This year he is thriving. The entire staff is very communicative about our son's challenges and successes; and are always available to answer questions and make suggestions regarding his academic development. We really feel that our son in not only being taught "academics" each day he is also nurtured as a whole person.Hamlin offers a safe environment that is not just about academics and test scores. There is focus on becoming a good citizen, building character, being active and healthy, and being a positive contributor to a global community. In our opinion, Hamlin is unquestionably impressive and to think we are getting all of this at a little public school in the valley!

I love this school. I have 3 children that go to this school and I've been happy with all their teachers. They have great teachers that care about their students. My experience at Hamlin has always been a great one.

Teachers at this school are very kind and supportive. I have loved my experience at Hamlin so far. Teachers are concerned about my child's well-being and education. They are very dedicated to their job. What I love most about this school is the diverse population and the exposure my children have to different cultures. My children feel welcomed at Hamlin.

I love this school and all teachers. We have not had any bad experiences here until Aug.2016 when we gained a new principal, Dana Carter. She has no idea what she is doing, she seems fake and is very selfish . She is controlling and does not make right choices as far as programs, events and such. She does not know how to communicate with parents and does not care about what parents have to say. Everything is about money to her. Since she has started there has been a huge turn over with office staff because they did not like her and decided to retire and or find something better. The office staff were great and professional , we loved them. We need a new principal ALREADY!!!!

The teachers at this school care about there students and communicate very well with the parents on all matters that affect or involve their children. The only complaint I have is the new principal who started there this year. Ms. Dana Carter has no concern for the students or the teachers. She only cares for test score results. She is uncompromising and everything must be done exactly as she wants. This is the first time I have ever heard of a principal lower the grades a teacher gives their students. This is completely unacceptable and I now understand why she has been dismissed from her 2 previous schools. This is the type of Principal that is not needed. We do not need a principal who will willingly lower are children's grades so that she can falsely report that she improved their test scores at the end of the year. This is actually damaging to our children's self esteem and confidence in themselves. This is something that I wish our LAUSD district leaders would make sure does not happen. The Principal of the school is there to ensure that our children are well taught and confident. She is not there to change grades and make herself look better. I have never said this in the entire my child has attended Hamling but I am very thankful that this our last year there as I do not to continue to deal with the principal that has now taken over. Staff memebers and other faculty members have transferred from the school or will be and it is a shame that the children have to lose such good people because of a principal who is only look out for herself and what is best for her only and not what is best for the children which is what she is supposed to be doing.

PTA is bias. Principal stands behind PTA and teachers. There's no communication, teachers treat children poorly during school hours, that's why their stress is so high. They teach and prep for high scores. They don't teach the standard curriculum, some things are taken out. They will hide and deny it.Do not go to this school!

My 13 year-old went to this school from 2nd grade until 5th and my 7 year old has attended this school for the past year. I have all good things to say. They have great communication, expectations are high enough, but not overbearing, and the teachers are great. I've had my children in other highly recommended schools in the West San Fernando Valley and while this school is not as appealing aesthetically, it is a safe and good school. I have noticed that it is a much more culturally diverse school than many of the others with a lot of parents who show great support and great respect for one another. So far so good.

I do not recommend this school. Do not let the test scores and solicited reviews fool you. My child who attended daycare and pre-k prior to attending this school loved school until he started Hamlin Kinder. His stress level was so high after the first few days that he started grinding his teeth, crying and hiding under the bed begging not to go back then ended up with a medical condition caused by stress that he will require treatment for many years if not life long. I will not go on about the many incidents we have had, but assure you that there are good schools out there and urge you to locate one. My heart bleeds for the children at this school and the many incidents I have witnessed and the parents likely have no idea what their kids are going through. So sad.

After spending the first half of the year at another very well known and sought after LAUSD school on the other side of the Valley, we moved and were assigned to Hamlin Charter Academy as our local school. I was concerned that my daughter might have difficulty adjusting to a new environment, but my fears were gone when I met her new kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Betts. Mrs. Betts is warm, gentle, and kind to her students. She is willing to address any concerns parents might have, and even gives out her personal phone number for calling or texting after school hours. Within a week of being in the class, my daughter became a "reader" and was excited to go to school everyday. The school also offers lots of extra programs like computer lab and weekly music classes. We feel very lucky that Hamlin is our school.

My daughter just finished kindergarten at Hamlin, and it was a wonderful experience. Mrs. Klima is the best! This is a small elementary school in a nice little neighborhood with a principal that truly cares about the students. They put a great deal of thought into which students will be a good fit with certain teachers, and always seem to put the students first. Like most schools in LAUSD, the budget is a struggle, but they still managed to have art, computer and music classes. There are many great schools in the West Valley, but this one is a hidden gem.
