Our son loves WBHS. The Marching Band program is well supported. Teachers are supportive when you reach out to communicate, otherwise, students and parents should watch grades on Blackboard and Parent Vue. Counselors are very responsive. I don’t understand some of these ratings; the school we moved from in OK was rated 9, but was horrible for class size (typically 32), test scores, and teacher engagement (see class size). We would give WBHS a 9 and OK public schools about 3.

I agree with the last reviewer -- the administration is not doing a good job, and has turned a deaf ear towards toxic mold in the building making students sick. In 2007, William Byrd tested positive for toxic mold -- the public was never fully informed of the toxic nature of testing. My son tested positive for Stachybotrys chartarum (black mold) after attending William Byrd. He had seizure like symptoms, worsened asthma, pneumonia, and stopped breathing during one of the twitching episodes at school. By the way, toxins (mycotoxins) produced by molds have been studied for use as a biological weapon -- that's how toxic this stuff is. Very scary. Parents should be aware that their children could also get sick (infected) from toxic mold.

Many good kids and caring teachers! Administration is a joke! Needs to be replaced! It's a three ring circus there!

I'm currently enrolled at WBHS as a junior this year, and I have to be honest-- I do not like this school as a whole. There are MANY problems with bullying. Most teachers are nice and friendly, but do very little to stop bullying. I've even been in classes where students picked at the teacher. Administration is normally pleasant to deal with (as long as you're not a trouble student). My experience is my own, but if you're considering a school in Roanoke County, you may want to look at your other choices first.
