Awful staff and resource officer. This school is more of a joke then it is real.

This school has its pros and cons and is very diverse. Academic wise I believe could be better as I haven’t seen homework all year this year and I’m not a fan of learning things on an iPad but that’s Roanoke city schools as a whole. Some teachers and faculty are truly wonderful while others I question their ability to work with small kids. I would immediately get phone calls all because my child told them NO, then I wouldn’t get a phone call for my child having ISS for standing up to bully’s. I’d learn about that a week or two later. As a parent it’s best to stay on top of things and meet your child’s teachers so your child doesn’t get left behind.

Has great teaching and helps students overcome themselves.

The new principal and his assistants lack professionalism, along with key abilities to work with small children. This school was great until this year with their new policies. How do you teach a child K-5 on an iPad everyday while they are physically class?

Communication skills suck throughout the entire school; including the assistant principal and principal. They will say they will look into it. But next time you speak to them they still don’t have a clue. Listening skills aren’t there either. You won’t get even the bare minimum when it comes to a quality education. The substitute teachers are there to babysit and don’t teach anything.

Not a positive experience overall. The school has a challenging population; however, this does not mean that discipline expectations and consequences should be non-existent. In essence, the school enables students to continue their poor conduct; the kids know there are minimal expectations and minimal consequences, so they do whatever they feel. Bullying, especially on the buses is a daily thing and again, no real expectations or consequences when this happens. Some parents seem to think the school is a free daycare center as they fail to raise and discipline their offspring and blame everyone else for their own failure as a parent. Some great staff, but if certain ones in the various cliques spent less time gossiping about each other and more time polishing their craft and cooperating with other staff, things could be better as a whole.

I feel my daughter is getting a so so education, but some of the teachers do not want to have meetings with parents. As far as parent teacher relations there is none. The higher ups do not care, very disappointed with this school, I will be considering private school next yr. And hope the teachers care more than this school,
