This is a terrible school. It is not the teachers' faults. They try their best to reach the students and provide a safe learning environment. However, the administration falls incredibly short. The students basically run the school and are allowed to do whatever they want to. The administration is ineffective and ultimately blame the teachers for all of the school's short comings. There is currently an unprecedented amount of teachers leaving the school for next school year. The principal is telling everyone it is because of the new influx of EL students. That is absolutely not true. The school's largest population now is Hispanic. No teacher is leaving for this reason. They are leaving because of the way they are treated by the administration. The school is an extremely toxic and hostile work environment. The teachers are simply leaving for their own sanity. Please do not send your children here. They will not be in a productive learning environment and their needs will not be met.

I am a substitute teacher for Roanoke City Public schools. One day at this school was enough for me to never want to come back! What I saw were teachers that care and do their best to do their jobs to the best of their ability. The students are completely out of line in the way they disrespect teachers. Students do not want to stay seated or quiet during instruction which makes it really difficult for teachers to do their jobs if they are having to constantly ask them to please be quiet. Students at this school also want to come and go out of the classroom as they please and do not want to be told anything. Another concerning thing is the rough play between boys and girls, pushing and pulling on each other. WHERE ARE THE PRINCIPALS DURING ALL OF THIS???? I not once came across them the whole day there. Not in the cafeteria, not in the gym, not in the hallways, and definitely not in the classrooms. If they care to turn this school around, they need to be PRESENT! and help teachers deal with student behavior instead of leaving teachers to deal with it all on their own! The reason I am taking the time to write this review is due to the fact that this is the worst school I have seen so far. Something has to change here. I feel bad for those few students who do want to learn but can't due to the constant disruption of others.

There's a lot of bullying at this school. My daughter has been kicked hard by boys. Most of the boys at this school have NO PROBLEM with hitting a girl for no reason. Most of the teachers speak to these kids any kind of way with no respect. The principal is hard to reach. Mr. Sikes and Mr Crouse is NO HELP. I'm going to make it my priority to put her in a better school next year if it means moving out of the area. Most of the kids curse like crazy, they say the meanest things to my daughter. Things I don't discuss in my home, but I'm finding myself explaining to her. Bullying is the biggest problem at Breckinridge. Oh, the teachers love ISS. They figure they'll put you there before dealing with the problem firsthand.
