My daughter went to Wilcox PK-1 and we had a very good experience with the school and faculty. I am a teacher myself. I understand why schools have the policy’s they do and how things work behind the scenes. These children today - God love ‘em - are more out of control and unsure of themselves post-Covid than they were before. Adults are just as unsure about it and kids have seen how poorly we’ve managed ourselves during a crisis. It is not the teachers job to mother or parent your children - that’s your job. Please stop putting unrealistic and unwarranted expectations on teachers - parent your own children. Teach them to not fall to pieces if they’re bullyed because news flash - they’re going to get bullied in EVERY school you put them in. That’s what children do, Covid or not. The teachers and staff at Wilcox have bent over backwards for my child so many times I’ve lost count. Did she mess around on the playground a few times and get yelled at by the aids - yes! Big deal! She probably deserved it! Those aids are human too. Also to accuse a teacher or school employee of “not caring” is absolutely ludicrous. EVERY staff member there cares otherwise they wouldn’t be there - it’s not like they’re getting rich working at a school, they have many other options as far as careers go but they chose to be there. If you want to raise your child to be a sheltered wilting flower then by all means that’s your prerogative, but from what you’ve witnessed in this country over the last 4 years - do you really think that serves them long term? Teaching students discipline is a huge part of academic rigor. Academic rigor is a standard of excellence that professors and administrators expect of their students. “It is a fine line between challenging and frustrating a student, as it means that students are challenged to think, perform and grow to a level that they were not at previously” (wiki) Academic rigor is introduced at every stage of your child’s life starting in pre-k. Yes kids should feel safe at school, yes they should feel loved and cared for, but that’s 1 child among 100’s and they’re not going to treat your child any different than the next just because you think they’re “special”. I love the one comment left by the woman who said she was glad she listened to the fb comments and not the reviews on this site - she’s right! Anyone reading this - Wilcox is an amazing school, and we’re looking forward to a new chapter at Samuel Bissell next school year.

The principal and vice principal are sleepers. Teachers that should retire can't, they are just waiting for the tenure and our children are suffering at their hands.

Terrible school! We have had so many issues with the administration that I don’t even know where to begin. Bullying is a big problem that is just not dealt with. The lunch and recess aids are overwhelmed and treat the children terribly. I had to pull my child out one year because he was having nightmares and panic attacks about having to see the mean “lunch ladies” and yes I met with the principal about the issue and there was nothing but broken promises made to resolve the issue. The next year we had the same problem. “Mean and scary” staff again I had meetings with the principal even wrote emails to the superintendent and nothing changed. They just don’t care about the well being of the children. So once again I’m pulling my child out. I feel bad for the parents who don’t have the option to homeschool their kids and have to send their child to Wilcox. If your considering sending your kid their my advice to you would be to move somewhere closer to a different school district!! Bissel and Dodge aren’t much better! I’ve had kids in those aswell!!

We started kindergarten in the pandemic year and boy was it a struggle. We did virtual half and in-person the second half. While virtual didn’t work it for us, on-campus was amazing. They took proper precautions and still had fun. My daughter came home happy and excited everyday. Superb teachers. We almost didn’t move here because of the ratings on this site and glad I didn’t heed them and listened to parents on the Facebook group instead. Very pleased with how the year was handled and how much my daughter learned.

Only the first few weeks at this place and I am very unimpressed with the staff, structure, and the dictatorship-like policies!! And if your child is like mine with a food allergy you can forget it! I've found NOONE to be helpful and the "Open House" was an absolute joke as you are not allowed to engage with the teachers?!?!! The bus manages to be so late that my child can't even eat breakfast at school, thus resulting having to get the child much earlier to eat breakfast at home, but the expectation is that children know the "routine" by week 4, BUT THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM/ADULTS STILL DONT KNOW THE ROUTINE!!!! Counting down the days to leave this school district!!

This school is horrible. I volunteered to help during recess one day. About 100 students were supervised by only three staff members. It was chaos. They screamed at children to behave because they were overwhelmed by the numbers. And even grabbed children who were stepping about a foot out of the line. I can't believe they put their hands on kids!

We have had so many problems with bullying at this school and they refuse to do anything about it. We even showed them a video of a boy tormenting another child (our child was not involved at all so we know it was not our little one starting the fight). They still denied it. I guess my own eyes deceive me...
