I pulled my child out! This is not a safe or effective school.

My kids have had a lot of success here. They have had the opportunity to look at career fields that they hadn't thought of before. The teachers have been great about communicating, and I never have a difficult time getting in contact with admin when needed. Always gonna have occassional hiccups, but they do a great job as far as I can tell.

1 out 10 in making a save school. No protection with the shooting sprees. Marana staff is not looking at the reality of all the issues that happen out of the classroom

If i could sum up this school in one word it would be racist. This is one of the most unwelcoming and hateful schools around. I never encountered more racism than I did at this school. From n words being shouted ,to students chanting "Mexicans should be deported" this is an unwelcoming environment for minorities.

The environment is truly great to be around. Teachers are firm, fair and consistent.

This is our 1st year at MHS and we are thrilled. We have received more individualized attention than I imagine even a private school could offer. Emails to teachers, counselors, and administration are regularly answered within 48 hours. My child wanted to move up to a higher level class half way through 1st quarter, so I emailed about it on a Tuesday, got a reply on Thursday, and he was switched to the higher class the following Monday. This school offers nearly every activity your child could want: excellent sports of every type, about 50 lunch time clubs, Academic Decathalon, 14 AP classes, fantastic theater productions, orchestra, band, jazz band, and choir, and offer an activity bus to bring kids home from after-school activities. They now have a full time college counselor who is extremely knowledgeable and always available for meetings. This school has adapted to the population they serve and continues to offer multiple robust Career and Technical Education pathways, as well as nurturing college readiness. The principal, Dr. Mandel, has been fair, helpful, present, and committed to school improvement. He holds parent meetings about coaches after every sports season, and makes coaching changes based on feedback. We looked at many other High Schools in the Tucson area, including public, charter, and private, and we are so glad we chose MHS.

The absolute worst school ever for children with disabilities the teachers them selves are bullies.Discrimination like crazy and the principle is rude and uncaring...

Overall the staff of MHS majorly lacks in regard for the students. Their mental and physical health is often ignored, while constantly applying more stress to the students than necessary. This school is below average in state testing scores because teachers do not properly engage the students and interest them in their learning topics, resulting in people ditching class, not paying attention, or dropping out. Absolutely could be a better school.

I actually really enjoy going to Marana High School. I am a senior this year and honestly, I am really sad that I will be leaving. I know many people say bad things about this school but I have to disagree. The teachers are absolutely wonderful and they care a lot about the students. Although there is occasionally a teacher who gets hired that isn't really good, they are usually removed from our campus by the next school year. I think the current principle is a really helpful person. He has taken time out of his day three times to come and talk to my English class one on one about essays we were writing and it was really helpful. Another time, he came and taught my Government class and that was really cool. He really connects with the students. Marana High School is a really cool place and I will miss it next year.

Overall, this school used to be great. The principal a few years ago when 2 of my kids were there knew how to get things done and respected both students and parents. This new principal, Dr. Mandel has no respect for parents at all. Does not close the door when having a private meeting about my son. He blamed my child for something that he was not fault at and said well someone needs to be accountable so parents stop yelling at me. Very immature for a man who has a doctorate and who thinks he is better than everyone. Yelled at me and my husband because another parent yelled at him. Total power trip.

The Administrators and teachers are outstanding. The kids there are great. There is a different feel at Marana. The kids are nicer and respectful. There have been several teachers who have worked at other schools who say the Marana kids are the best. We have had a great experience there.

Just another overcrowded underfunded baby-sitting service. Some of the teachers are okay, but the administration doesn't seem to like the students or the teachers.

This is a great school that suffers from many misperceptions. The students are kind and caring. The staff works hard to meet the needs of the students. There are many AP programs, Science Olympiad, Academic Decathlon type programs that challenge the brightest students regardless of what the school's reputation says. It is a safe campus. Teachers are held to a high standard. If you have questions go talk to the administration and teachers. You will be surprised at the great things this school is doing.

I will be a senior this year. I'm excited and nervous to leave. I don't feel prepared for college or the world. The class sizes are large. Some teachers go above and beyond while others....do not. They school picks favorites and there are a lot of fights/drugs. The schools motto is "caring and effective". Personally I'm tired of hearing the principal tell us how much she loves us. There is a lot of extracurricular activities though. I can't say how the sports teams are because I've never joined one. The fine arts are and music are awesome though. we have academies that are supposed to help guide us to our future careers but honestly they don't do anything. Maybe this year will be better? I doubt it though.

The administration at Marana High School plays favorites and gets involved in teen drama. They discriminate against kids who come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The athletic director is really bad about making it difficult for certain kinds of kids to participate in sports even when they meet all requirements. The principal is not responsive to parents and ignores problems. I would not trust a child with these people. Some of the teachers are really great, but the administration does not support them or respect their opinions.
