This school is terrible ever since the current administrators took over a few years ago. They don't care about the students and ignore the feedback from the parents. They think middle school-age students are not accountable for surveys related to the performance of full-time teachers and substitute teachers. They no longer provide for the student academics excellent award, and they don't even issue our kids middle school graduation certificates. We emailed them and never heard back from them.

My kid just started high school this year and first time in three years we are stress free. Thank god we are done with baker for good. Due to some issues we faced with English department related to test out for Honors English, my kid was treated unfair the whole time because we asked for transparency with the test results. We knew for a fact that some other kids were selected even though they were least qualified because of limited scheduling/ number of classes available at baker. The school thinks about teacher's schedule and class sizes and not students.I wish continued success for baker as there are some really great teachers in other departments! More old school type teachers retiring is actually good news for baker.

No one listens to the reports that my child puts in about the bullying. I had to go to the top of the school to get them to listen to my daughter.

Baker Middle school has a long way to go if it has to stand a chance against other high performing middle schools in Troy. They specifically need to improve in Math and English departments. In Math, there aren't enough passionate math teachers who can teach with enthusiasm. Mrs. Bai is promising though. English department is whole another story. It seems the head of the department plays favorites and keeps personal vendetta against parents and kids who question their ways of doing things. On the whole its a frustrating experience dealing with teachers because they aren't open to any suggestions .

Baker continues to be lowest achieving middle school in the district. Every year it seems the school makes a change of some kind to improve the test scores. Math department is unsatisfactory. We have encountered a couple of not-so-good teachers, but overall happy with the teachers and administrators. Communication could be better. There is a new principal, who is very nice and she seems she will make a difference. The block scheduling is being eliminated, but not the IB. Not impressed with IB, as we haven't seen much benefit with all the extra requirements and the rigorous grading scale. We have not had any issues with bullying but there have been issues with theft. Because of the continuous low MEAP scores, I will rate this school below average.

My kid is currently studying at Baker middle school. There is clearly lack of communication between parents and teachers . We had to encounter a bad teacher early on which is frustrating for the parent and the kid. The teacher is plain rude,no input/comments/criticism on kids writing work, so there is no way of knowing where your kids stand? Dr. Audra Melton, the new principal looks promising. Hopefully she will take care of these bad teachers by requesting surveys from parents/students to determine the real cause and make Baker a better school for students to attend. I Cant even send my kid to another school due to lack of bus services. Hope the Troy school district will do something about this.

My son has recently started 9th grade at Troy High after being at Baker for all three years of middle school. I thought I was just being one of those parents who thought their child was "smarter" than he actually was, or complaining about the IB Curriculum for no good reason. At Baker he was consistently placed in the advanced level classes in both English and Math, but he struggled with B's and C's. The homework amount and constant projects was overwhelming. I am SO happy he is done with middle school. After completing his first quarter of high school, he almost got all A's!! His stress level has gone down tremendously! So my opinion is that the IB Program and the IB Block Scheduling stinks. At least for my son. I don't think this type of curriculum should be pushed upon an entire middle school of children just because they live in that attendance area. We had no other choice unless I was able to take him to and from another middle school. Being a working mom, that was not an option. Troy, if you want to keep the IB program going, please make it a lottery only option for those parents who want it and are willing and able to drive their child to school!

Ohh boy... I think everyone knows it but Baker has very very low MEAP scores, and the kids are kind of mean to everyone but their friends, and unaccepting... I understand their IB program is supposed to be good in the future (I mean maybe if they taught it differently instead of drilling the personality traits in your head) but really, it's messing up their education. MEAP scores in the 50's? Really? This is not preparing students for high school, the ultimate goal for middle schools. There is a few good teachers, but some of them are inexperienced with little to no teaching experience. Overall, the only thing I liked was the big building that was intended to be a high school. I was miserable during my time at Baker, but happier at high school. Along with other Baker classmates, I was not prepared for high school and had to work really hard to learn past things. -A former Baker student

I went to this school. Don't go there!!! Try it if you want but the atmosphere is very draining to your confidence. It was hard for me to keep up in high school, same for other kids who went to Baker. The test scores are averaging in the 50%. AND Baker is a last chance school for students and teachers! Some bad teachers and troublemaking kids are given their last chance here. Many people got bullied. The IB stuff... it's just ridiculous. This school made me miserable! - A former Baker student :(

The majority of kids at this school are rude and are always being hostile, and stuck up. It is very hard to make friends there! Once I went to Baker the work load was very heavy. It was very tough to get anything done. The IB program is ridiculous and overdone. All we do is fill out what characteristics we 'displayed' while doing a sheet of homework. -_- "I was caring because I did not slap anyone during the band concert!" Kids do not care about their grades there. Also did I mention the capstone binders? Just so you know, people can check one out and look through your grades- and copy a good paper. The good thing is that Taco Bell is nearby, a good stop for a half day with friends. Alright, that's my rant of Baker. ;) I suggest to think twice before sending your kids there! -A student at Baker
