Madronna is pretty good. I am annoyed by the various grading platforms the teachers use. In my district we use only one. For parents it can be very hard to navigate three different platforms to see grades and current assignments. The principal readily responds to emails and is caring. My son enjoyed spirit week. School climate is meh though. Kids bully other kids and the admin adresses it. Yet the bullying goes on. There is a lot of homophobia at the school according to my son. As a middle school teacher I would like to hear that there are more school wide assemblies on behavioral expectations. It’s January and there has only been one this school year. My school I work at has school wide assemblies every week by contrast. Most of my son’s teachers are awesome in my opinion. The math department isn’t very good at communicating with parents in that their manner is condescending. So far I feel Madronna is just ho hum. The campus is lack luster in terms of school spirit. It looks very institutional but it is clean. There doesn’t seem to be fights so that is good. My son loves the theater program with Mr. Hovas and Ms. Wulpern for science. Other than that he says, He hates school.” He is also dramatic so I take this sentiment with a grain of salt. The school is just okay.

Staff are quick to prejudge students with disabilities and are not really interested in their ability to self-advocate. When students do advocate, they are gaslit, labeled problematic, or accused of misreading a situation. Truly shocking, considering how hard it must be for such a student to get the nerve to speak up only to have their voice silenced so dismissively.

Great middle school years for my kids. Love some of the teachers specially Mr. G for Science and Mr. H for English. They got good electives like Project Lead the Way and Science Olympiad. They compete and goes to regionals and state! Great service club programs too - MUN and CJSF. Also, on 8th grade, they can take advance HONORS classes in Torrance High.

The school out of all isn't great. The teachers don't teach, they just do the problem and in a way, "Show off their skills" They do not give any homework and most of the teaches have a weekly routine of doing a paper everyday and then having the rest of the period off. Only a few teachers deserve to be called teachers since they don't do anything teaching at all, All teachers choose favorites and choose the class idiots, I am a student here and I'm eager to get out of this school in a year.

I have a seventh grader who attends Madrona, and I am highly satisfied with this school. We moved from Harbor City and bought an (expensive) house just so my children could attend Torrance schools. Any of the negative reviews have probably never attended Los Angeles school district (not far from Torrance) Madrona is ranked 8 out of 10 on the great schools list for a reason!!! Its a safe, high ranking school, in a great neighboorhhod. Not to mention the wonderful community as a whole, with the library, and Torrance police station right in its backyard. No school on the planet is going to have perfect teachers, or perfect acadameics in a parents eyes....but Madrona is close as you could get.....Go Wildacats!!

School overall not focused on the academics. Teachers seems to be demotivated at all the time( not sure what is the problem is now because we all used to the economic crisis ). Many kids are not achievement oriented becoming burden to the class and to the teacher, holding back kids eager to learn and teachers wanting to teach more.

Unused how to rate Madrona, they have couple terrific teachers & staff ; However they also have teachers, teaching by intimidation, students are afraid to ask questions, I personally went to speak to the 7th grade Social Science teacher, and she was one of the most unprofessional teachers I have encounter; she behave like a teenager with an attitude. Some teachers are not able to explain at the student level, or the quick answer is to ask your partner, which to me is not teaching. They do have an Outstanding Counselor and Speech Pathologist they are both professional that have a great interest and caring for the students.

The teachers lack teaching skills at this school. They lack the energy it takes to teach children and, when questioned by the student to "explain in a different way because I don't understand," the teacher turns on the student and does not explain what was not understood, Needless to say, I took my child out of Madrona and into another school where he flourished. The principal also left the school because he could not tolerate the parents' complaints about the teachers.

This school used to be run with the precision of a nuclear submarine. With the take over by a new principal, it's more like Captain Jack Sparrow's frigatte. If you have options, go there.
