I am deeply concerned by my child’s experience at this middle school, where the lack of support and prioritization of specific interests has created an environment of isolation and neglect. Rather than fostering community and inclusion, the school’s approach neglects students’ emotional, social, and academic needs. One of the most troubling issues is the overwhelming focus on football and baseball, which receive significant resources and attention. Students with other interests—whether in academics, the arts, or other sports—are often dismissed. This favoritism sends a harmful message that only specific pursuits are valuable. Students not interested in athletics feel marginalized and unsupported, negatively impacting their self-esteem and sense of belonging. The school also needs to support students with unique academic or social needs adequately. Many students need proper guidance or resources to navigate these challenges, whether due to learning differences or emotional struggles. This lack of individualized support creates isolation and frustration, leaving students without the necessary tools to succeed. The school’s social environment further promotes exclusion, with cliques and divisions forming around dominant groups, particularly athletes. Students who do not fit into these groups struggle to create meaningful connections, exacerbating feelings of isolation during these formative years.Additionally, the school neglects emotional and social development. Emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and peer relationships are vital at this age, yet these areas are largely ignored. Without support in these areas, students are ill-prepared to navigate the challenges of middle school life.In conclusion, this school needs to meet the needs of all its students. By prioritizing athletics, neglecting emotional support, and fostering exclusion, it creates an environment where many students struggle to thrive. I can only recommend this school once changes are made.
