I don't think the teachers have the training they need or the support from school leaders to be effective. We left the school 2 years ago and both my girls had IEP's. Now in there new School, with much help my oldest just tested at grade level and no longer needs an IEP. She is doing well and happy. My youngest was reevaluate in June, the soonest they could do it since Discovery did theirs and they found her to be dyslexic and have started her in a OG program right away. According to her new evaluation she's a textbook case dyslexic and should have been diagnosed years ago. I'm very thankful we left that school and are finally in a place that has truly helped both my girls

My child arrived during 3rd quarter last school year and was able to make a seamless transition. Teachers send home detailed behavior and academic reports and are great at using Dojo to communicate quickly. The school is very family oriented, having several family nights throughout the year and my daughter loves the community garden!

As Discovery Academy embarks on it's second year, we must first reflect on year one and the goals we set out for the school and for ourselves. First and foremost, we made it our number one priority to put on a top-notch educational program for our students and families. 100% of our staff was highly-qualified throughout the entire year and our teachers and students exceeded expectations by posting an incredible school-wide average of 153% growth on their NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) tests for math and reading. What that means is that our students collectively exceeded their expected yearly growth by 53%. In addition, 96% of our 3rd graders met the requirements for promotion under the Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Another area we targeted for growth was the number of total students we served in the building. After having just 30 students enrolled on August 1st of 2013, we opened the first day of school with an amazing 93 students, and we finished the year with 129, a 39% enrollment growth over the course of the year. In our world, the best form of advertising is word-of-mouth, and we cannot thank you enough for sharing us with your friends and family, a trend, which has continued into year two with over 225 students enrolled. Last, but certainly not least, we wanted to create a family-friendly school that was an extension of home; a place parents could feel comfortable sending their children each and every day. This goal is harder to measure, but after reading parent surveys, Facebook reviews, and talking with parents on a daily basis, I'd like to think this is another area in which we were able to exceed expectations. That said, now is not the time to rest on our laurels. If we truly want to be one of the elite elementary schools in the city of Toledo and in the state of Ohio, we must raise the bar we have set for ourselves and do it all over again year after year, and I hope you all will come on board for that journey with us. Thank you for a wonderful first year, and here's to many more to come in the future.

As a Parent, I want my child to be excited about going to school, and he is. last year was his first year at Discovery Academy, and he is very excited about going back again this year. I am so happy he likes going to school.
