The faculty at this school is unmotivated and quite discouraging, specially towards those children who are struggling either emotionally or academically or both. There’s a need for drastic change. My extra star goes to the office staff, who are always nice and hard working folks. Shout out to them.

Right now, It's alright. However, this school has a major bullying and racial problem. There are gangs that think they are above everyone else. They say racist slurs, they physically, and mentally harass people at this school. The Teachers in the discover program are amazing. These teachers are the best at the school, Ms. Reyes, Ms. Burge, Ms. Hamaker, Mrs. Haver, and Mrs. Forbrizzio. So if you are going to go to this school be in discover, only downside to that is community service.

I was a student 6-8 and it was a literal nightmare. People doing drugs/vaping was so common you could smell the smoke when you walked around campus. Teachers were rude for no particular reason(why do you have issues with an elven year old?), and the workload was insane for 8th graders and honors kids. Lewd graffiti everywhere and racial slurs tossed around way too commonly. Bullying is *not* payed attention to.

As I come to this school most kids aren't respectful or kind to one another. Today I went to get breakfast from the cafeteria, and people were cutting and saying bad words to each other, although they were not kind to one another. I wouldn't highly recommend this school to other families.

This school is dog water. Literally every time I walk to lunch carrying my stuff, I hear someone say a racial slur, multiple swear words or calling someone "gay". Most of the teachers are good, but some of them are bad. Also, some of the Childcare staff really do not care about you. It's an okay school, but I 10000% WOULD NOT recommend this school.

Wayyy to much bullying that, even if reported, does not get handled/punished well AT ALL. Most teachers are nice, but some of them are kind of rude and horrible to their students. At least they kind of try and 'do' something about things reported? Its a lot better than other schools out there, but still.

Went to Sequoia Middle school in 2009-2010. Will never forgot a certain teacher telling us, "Most of you won't even get accepted to college give up." I never hated school more in my life than I hated Sequoia. The common joke in Newbury Park is, "Hey man do you remember how awful Sequoia was?" Genuinely haven't met a single person who enjoyed it.

I met many friends and teachers there that I still talk to today. The overall handling of bullying and social issues wasn’t the best, but inside the classroom and homework loads were pretty alright.

While I really appreciate the effort of the many excellent teachers at this school, I have to say that leadership with regards to school culture and bullying is a bit disappointing. Although the school has a wonderful new principal, I have heard from my children that while they attended, there was little to no effort to curb certain behaviors such as rampant bullying and name calling. Ignoring while some use slurs with no repercussions is not healthy school policy. I would hope that we may better represent our community. Needs improved leadership with regards to these behaviors.

Love the school; teachers are amazing. Sadly, lots of people cut the lunch line, there's lot of bullying, and a lot of homework.

(In the time I am writing this, I am currently a 7th Grade Sequoia student)Pros of school:- Discover Program is great- Contrary to popular belief, this school is not racist (or discriminatory) in any way- Regular and Discover teachers are generally good at their job- The vast majority of teachers are fair and just (few exceptions)Cons of school:- Limited technology usage; phones are banned during school hours; laptops and chromebooks are outdated and have limited functionality; outdated software;- No proper electives (without applications)/ little effort put into non-applicant "electives"- Principal won't change her viewpoints; caused many unfair blanket bans (for privacy reasons, her name will not be mentioned)

Both of my kids loved Sequoia. The teachers are well-educated in their subjects and they care about kids. The principal is innovative and the curriculum is engaging. The campus itself looks a little dated but inside the classrooms each student has a computer and there are many enrichment programs for all the different student interests. The diverse population mirrors the real world so the kids make friends with people from different cultures. The block schedule also gets them ready for the schedule at NPHS.

Teachers and staff are good, courteous and nice. Unfortunately it is filled with unruly children, indiscipline, rudeness, bullying, disrespectfulness.... I think the Principal needs to take a stronger stance and bring discipline in to the children. I am literally scared of sending my child to school.

We chose Sequoia after having visited most of the middle schools in our area. We actually decided to school choice into Sequoia and are extremely pleased. The staff is excellent and very responsive. The teaching is very effective and the block system works well for our child. The music program is top notch as well as the sports options. All in all we are very happy.
