This school has been exceeding expectations from day one. My son started with limited proficiency in reading and is now an entire grade level above. They have small learning groups to keep children progressing at their own pace. Everyone from administration to the teachers have been responsive and supportive. I am single mother of a minority child who is absolutely thriving at this school and could not be more pleased.

Overall, our child enjoys Syracuse Latin and has made solid gains in their education but on many metrics the school falls short and falls into the same problems as the other school in Syracuse City School District: mediocre communication, over reliance on worksheets, way too much screen time for young children, over reliance on technology to differentiate, poor discipline model (punitive - they still take away recess even with an abundance of research to indicate the harm). Is this the best elementary school in Syracuse City School District? Probably. Is it as good as it should be....No!

My child loves the school and the experience. I love the education that he is receiving. The school definitely lives up to the hype, and I consider myself and my child blessed for the opportunity.

Syracuse Latin is rapidly becoming THE premiere school , not just in our district, but in CNY at large. It is a public school, as previously stated , which I would say most resembles a charter school, even a private school. My daughter comes home excited to share what she learned each day. Syracuse Latin covers the same curriculum at a faster pace, allowing students an opportunity to explore topics not generally studied in their grade (such as: ancient cultures of Mesopotamia, or African dance and drumming).I love that she receives Spanish instruction weekly, (and actually they would increase this.)I rated Syracuse Latin as 4 stars. The school must recognize, acknowledge, and understand the challenges students from lower SES backgrounds face. It seems Latin does not realize some families do not have the means to continually send in money, or send in snack and lunch each day. (These are just a few examples) Additionally, I am not aware of any enrichment programs to level the playing field, so to speak, for learners from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

It should be noted that this is a limited admissions public school. Students who are falling behind may require a different approach to teaching and learning. The program is developed for advanced learners, who may have difficulty in a conventional classroom setting.This is my daughter's third year, and the school has been most excellent for her. The staff and environment have really been supportive with her throughout her time.While she is still showing signs of being in an advanced learner state, this is starting to diminish. Our household is going to try some conventional learning over the summer and see if this program is no longer right for her. For some, this state is transient, but not for others. The advanced start she was given will serve her throughout her academic career even if she is growing out of the need for this program.As to children with special needs, I don't believe it is tracked that way. Advanced learner characteristics show up as a sign of dyslexia, dyscalcula, and several other learning disabilities. While their program is entirely special education, it is designed to make the most of the advanced learner state and not necessarily to be supportive of any difficulties.

My child is in his third year at the Latin school. I am very pleased with the school.
