My two kids went through 8 years at Ed Smith K-8. The teachers cared deeply about the kids and there was always good community support. Both kids are now "A" students in high school, doing well in AP courses.

Mr. Barber is an outstanding principal who stands out as a leader who looks out for the best interests of the students there. He is by no means an uninvested administrator, as is s common at many schools. Ed Smith enjoys enormous support from the community and maintains an active learning environment with a robust and diverse student body. I have had the pleasure of sending all four of my children (17-8 years old) to this school, and have gotten to know many of the teachers there quite well. With the rare exception, they are all motivated by the needs of their students and work quite hard to ensure that students are making academic gains. I believe that the K-8 structure works well here with ~75 students per grade level maintaining the feeling of a small school environment. The physical structure allows students in grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 to be separated for the most part in order to ensure a developmentally appropriate environment. I'm deeply appreciative of the impact that Ed Smith School has had on my children who represent the spectrum of honors, special needs, average, and one in need of some extra support. They have all thrived at Ed Smith, a school that I am proud to be part of in this community.

I have had 2 kids in attendance here since for 9 years. While we have seen many changes going through the SCSD, Ed Smith continues to strive for success for the entire student body. I see committed teachers and many hard-working students. The middle school musical is terrific every year. Many parents attend the PTO meetings and fund raise for extra activities. The feeling of support at this school is HUGE.
