The Syracuse Hebrew Day School is an absolute gem and truly a model of what education should be: small class size, individual attention, nurturing students while simultaneously encouraging them to be the best they can be. This extends to how they treat each other and how they interact with the world around them.

Three of my children have graduated from SHDS, with a strong sense of self and responsibility. My kids know who they are and how important it is to be a part of a caring community. They can also read, write, and score well on their math assessments!

I have had two children go through the Hebrew Day from Kindergarten to sixth grade (our son will graduate next week). We have loved every minute of our time at SHDS and our kids will have friends for life. The education is phenomenal and students that come out of SHDS are well prepared for the transition to public schools. We were so happy when our oldest moved to middle school and quickly realized that she was ahead of her peers because of the stellar teachers at the Day School. Due to the small class sizes, the teachers were able to individualize the subjects to the strengths of each student and build each student’s confidence. When the nation was faced with the coronavirus pandemic, the move by SHDS to virtual learning was immediate and seamless. The students have been meeting virtually face to face with their teachers since the Monday after the state announced the closure of schools statewide. The teachers have been supportive of the student’s new reality but have continued to move their education forward instead of simply focusing on review work. I would recommend SHDS to anyone!

We have 3 children that attended through graduation. They were all beyond prepared for secondary school and life after 6th grade. More importantly, the school helped us instill the very best values gleaned from thousands of years of Jewish wisdom and experience. They each, together with us as a family collectively, were able to experience 7 special years during their childhood within a learning environment and experience not otherwise available in Central New York.

At SHDS the staff is nurturing and devoted, the community is kind and generous, this precious school enriches their hearts and minds for life! Great for a child who learns well in small multi age learning environments. Academically it is a rich foundation in Judaism and Hebrew as well as language arts, math, science, art, dance, performance and music. And a great gym and the option to go sledding at recess! And so much more.

Accepting a teaching position at SHDS was the wisest and most rewarding career decision I ever made. Everyday, I have the opportunity to teach with pride and passion in a welcoming and supportive community. I am not the only one. Across our school, our administrator, teachers, staff and students greet each day with enthusiasm for the learning and adventures that lie ahead. Do we teach the NYS Core Curriculum? You bet we do. Our students learn what every other student across the state does, and so much more. They learn what it means to be part of the Jewish community, how to be a person of character, and a love of learning that sustains them for their lifetime. I honestly believe there is no better school for Jewish children in this area. Whether you are Jewish or not, yet want your children to benefit from an academically challenging, faith and character based education, SHDS is a great place to be.

As a parent of a child who benefits greatly from a smaller class size, I have been thrilled with the way my son has blossomed at the Syracuse Hebrew Day School. The environment is warm and nurturing, and the teachers know how to encourage my child to meet his potential -- and stretch himself a little. The school has been very responsive in providing extra support to allow him to succeed. There is no other school in town I believe could do more for my child.

There is no place I would rather send my children than the Syracuse Hebrew Day School. They receive a top-notch dual-language education, highly individualized attention, and a concrete sense of their own Jewish identity. The Day School community has become a sort of extended family for us, and I treasure the years we get to be a part of it.
