My boys attend the ps256@831 site. They transferred there in the middle of the year because their previous school was horrible. They started around April. They both went in nonverbal. Now it's February, less than a year ago, and one of my boys is fully verbal. And the other has a lot of words and requests things. The teachers and staff are amazing. They have worked so hard with them. I couldn't have asked for a better school.

PS 256 is a special education public school and it has multiple sites throughout Queens. One of them is located in Belle Harbor, NY. It's called PS 256@831 (formerly 256@Temple Beth-El). So my review is about it. This school is amazing. Teachers and staff go extra mile to make sure that kids' needs are met. They are warmhearted and pleasant people to deal with. Parent-Teacher communications are strong and detailed and you will get updates on your child's progress on everyday basis. This school has a great team of teachers, speech, PT and OT professionals who work with and for your child. IEP's services are usually start within a week of the meetings. Parents involvement is greatly encouraged and appreciated. This school has an "open door policy" but i would recommend to set up an appt with teachers or administration in advance to make sure that kids' instructions during the school day are not interrupted. The request would be honored as soon as possible and would not be left unanswered. This is very safe school since it's located in well kept, clean and family-oriented neighborhood. I would highly recommend this school. I'm happy than my kid is happy to go there.
