Our family searched for a middle school for our daughter for the next chapter of her academic and social journey of middle school and high school. Our daughter is a kind, social, wonderful person; who loves to laugh, spend time with family and friends and act. She desired to be in a place that would encourage her independence; but provide support when needed. We recognized very early on that she needed to be in an academic and social environment where she would feel nurtured, seen and heard. She needed a place where her challenges in math and socially, would be supported and her strengths could be further explored.Woodlynde is that place! We researched and visited several schools. The next decision of her academic journey had to be one that we collectively made as a family and ultimately one that our daughter decided upon. After her interview and visit; she instantly connected to Woodlynde. Woodlynde not only has a stellar academic program; most importantly their social emotional component is exemplary. Providing resources and outlets for students to feel comfortable to discuss their challenges is critical at this stage. Middle school is a crucial time in a child’s life. It is the beginnings of the physical, social and emotional changes that every child must navigate and Woodlynde recognizes that and provides the support at every level. Each student is recognized individually and welcomed into a community; where learning differences are celebrated.Choosing a school for your child at any stage is an extremely important decision that every parent and child must make. Joining the Woodlynde community has been the best decision we have made as a family.

My Woodlynde student is a bright, kind, and friendly young teen with so much life running through her mind at any given time that it can be tough for her to focus on what is right in front of her. Although she had been in two other LD schools previously, we didn't feel like we had found "the place" for her. She was getting good grades and was happy at school, but she still needed a lot of support at home with her schoolwork to ensure she was getting her work done on time and that it was the quality we knew she could do. We were worried as High School was not that far away and we knew that we needed to make a change. We attended an open house at Woodlynde and were toured by the Middle School Head. By the time the tour was finished, we literally had already crossed every question off our extensive list. We were blown away by all the Executive Function support that was mentioned. It seemed like they had taken every concern every parent had ever mentioned and found a way to address each of them in their day-to-day program. We're now one marking period in and our daughter has changed dramatically. She comes home prepared each and every day with everything she needs to complete her work for the next day. She takes advantage of the Academic Support Period daily to get a good bit of her work done but can connect with any of her teachers to be sure she knows exactly what she needs to do for the next day. We haven't had to email a teacher in the evening to verify what the assignment was...which we did A LOT before. We haven't had to get another parent to email me a worksheet because it was due the next day and we can't find it in her binder. All of our stress has decreased immensely. We worry less and she enjoys not having us constantly questioning her to be sure her work has been completed. We are no longer worried about High School and beyond as we feel confident that Woodlynde will have her well-prepared for her future.
