Reading these reviews is comical! The school is wonderful, the teachers I have had contact with are brilliant, the staff is loving, and my child is very well helped/educated. I know three generations of families who's kids have graduated from Messmore, loved it, and are very successful. My child entered in K and was very behind compared to the pre-k class taught by the school (prior to entry he participated in a Montessori pre-school and private tutoring). The grades do speak for themselves. There are only a few schools that achieve the academic excellence and custom motivation that Messmore achieves.

Can’t say enough good things about the education my children are receiving at Messmore. Many of the teachers come in early or stay late to assist students who may need additional help.

Extremely disappointed. IKf your child is the top, you are safe, othewise you and your child feel way over misery about yourself. No help from teachers, just elitism is in this school even a couple of principal take the office because parents are not diversified. They bring their relatives and friends. Very closed community. Good luck!!

Although this school is a public school, it has the feel of a private school. A lot of the kids who go here seem to come from well to do families, and the kids are pushed very heavily by their parents to perform well (almost to a fault). I know this is much easier said than done, but I highly suggest getting a sense of what your child's capabilities are before sending him or her here. The faculty seem to cater more to the academically gifted kids, and unless your child is part of the science olympiad team (which literally wins first place at the county tournament every year), the math olympiad team (equally as dominant), or a talented student, the faculty will not really care about helping your child grow academically. They seem more focused on maintaining their reputation as the best elementary school in the county. That being said, there are a lot of resources at this school, if your child is talented enough to be able to gain access to them.

Not much done for bullying. Most students are from a culture that demands kids to get A's. This is a High contributor to why percentiles are high. My child says many of her classmates freak out when they get B+ and comment : " my parents are going to kill me." Too much blah blah.

My daughter just completed her first year at Messmore. I could not be happier with the experience and her progress this year. The teachers are very caring and devoted. The parents group is very involved with the school and activities for the students. There are a few parents who 'drop and dash' but many volunteer as well.I wish it was a more modern building, but all of the hands on things the students use, media resources, computers, etc. are top notch.

My daughter is going into her second year at Messmore. So far, this school seems great. She has excelled in all academic areas. She has always been a bright kid, but this school (and the Montessori method) brought out the best in her. The new principal seems like a good fit for the school, too, as he is friendly, understanding, and proactive. Perhaps one negative aspect is the somewhat elitist attitude some parents bring, but that isn't necessarily against the school itself.

We are currently in the Pre-K program starting Fall 2014 (my son was in the nursery school program for the 2013-14 school year). I was concerned first about sending him to school 5 mornings a week, but he LOVED it and came out of his shell!) He enjoys the autonomy in the classroom and the fact that he has so many choices of what to work on in class. We chose this preschool specifically because it was Montessori AND a public school. We look forward to many more years at this public/montessori school. On a side note, the parking lot situation is a work in progress...with all the children being driven to/from school by parents, it's a bit hectic in the parking lot. I know there is a committee working on this and hope for some improvement this coming Fall.

I am writing this review on behalf of Messmore Elementary. I have had the pleasure of attending their end of year school event. It was so much fun and family oriented. You can tell the teachers and staff there care about their community. I hope they win the $5000 so they can continue to do great things for their students.

Great place for kids to enjoy a Montessori program and public school environment. Program is very detailed and gives the child to learn at her/ his own pace

I am a parent of 3 children at Messmore. My oldest child is in 6th grade. I have been happy with all aspects of the school. My primary reason for writing this review was prompted by the ignorant comment left by a parent about our new principal. How can you bash a principal in the beginning of the school year (Sept 16th) that is new to the school. You did not even give her a chance. You did not even know if the changes she made would work. Which most have. I have approached her with my thoughts and she was very open minded. The things she did not agree with, we talked through. Again she gave me a chance to review my thoughts. This school is a real gem in the district. We are lucky to have it. DO YOU think they would just give it to anyone?
