I am a student at Shelburne middle school. The bullying is out of hand. People can never accept people who are different from them in any way. The teachers do not help when students do not understand something. They just make fun of or get frustrated with the student. The administration does not know how to handle problems in the school and does not support peaceful and not disruptive protesting. They think their school is perfect in every way. Every nurse that we've had has been extremely disrespectful and it's honestly terrifying to be sick or hurt because I'm scared to go to the nurse. I by far do not recommend this school to anyone.

The bathrooms are always missing locks and graffiti is a big problem.

Bullying and violence is endemic and the administration dismisses it by saying that it is "a reflection of the community." Classrooms are out of control and the administration won't support teachers who try to discipline students. Teachers give up or quit. It is truly the rare student who could possibly learn anything in this setting.

How unfortunate that this is the only public middle school in town.

My experience has been very poor. Currently, the school is very ineffective and ill-equipped at implementing restorative justice.

I would rate Shelburne much higher if it weren't for the negative experiences we had with the administration of the school and the Staunton City School district. My daughter transferred into the school system (her 4th school district) in 5th grade and promoted to Shelburne this year. The teachers she had were all amazing. They offer great programs, their librarian is TOP NOTCH and their band directors are as well. We will surely miss the teaching staff and definitely the music program at SMS but GOOD RIDDANCE to the administration of the school and the district.

i am a student and i was their for my 6th and 7th grade year. there was SO much bullying, drugs and achahol, ect.! this is the worst school i have ever been or heared about! My father did not want to send me here but we had no choice. The electives and the elective teachers are the only great thing in this school. Teachers are the rudest people. Vice principal is rude, cruel, and VERY disrespectfull! Kids get made fun of all the time! Way to many fights to be in middle school. My opinon is they need to shut this school down, get new teachers and find other ways to teach. I worked super hard and got f's,d's, or c's. On the other hand, some teachers are really suportive and help aton! But some teachers will cuss ou out, try to hit you, flunk you, scream in your face, and ect.! WORST SCHOOL EVER!
