New administration and it has made a great difference in this school. Even under the former administration, my kids had wonderful, caring, supportive teachers. The new administration just makes it a much friendlier place. I feel like my kids have gotten a good, solid education at this school - don’t let old, negative reviews give you the wrong impression.

I've had three children attend Northampton and each had a wonderful experience with committed, caring teachers. The surrounding community is safe, supportive, and classically neighborly. As Northampton is one of the older schools in the district, the facilities have been undergoing gradual renovations the past few years, which provide a welcomed upgrade. The previous administration was less than beloved but just a couple of years ago the school gained a new principal who's doing a great job. It strikes me that most of the negative reviews on here are posted by folks needing a place to process some painful and disappointing experiences. But those reviews are certainly not representative of the parents I know at the school. In fact, many parents who themselves grew up in Northampton and attended the school have moved back in adulthood simply because they find it such a fantastic environment to raise kids. The school is more racially diverse than some of the surrounding schools, which as a mixed-race family we think is fantastic. We also have a child with learning differences and he receives exemplary care and accommodation. We love the area, love the Northampton neighborhood, and are very thankful for the school.

Terrible, communication is NONEXISTENT from what they are learning to progress to activities and special events/days you are on your own to figure it out. The school has a prison like atmosphere and I'm not referring to the security its the cold demeanor or the teachers and staff make the children and parents feel unwelcome

My children have received a great education at this school. The school cares about the intellectual and physical development of the children. We lived in the best school district in our prior state, and I would say our children’s education at this school has been on par.

The teachers and support staff are amazing. The administration is not. As other reviewers have noted, they have created a very tense environment. Kids are not even allowed to talk at lunch because the principal's office is close to the lunchroom and this disturbs her. Parents are not allowed to help expect for twice monthly volunteer days when they are allowed in the cafeteria for a specific time period and then told to leave.

When reading these reviews, please note that the administration changed at Christmas 2012. The current administration has created a very unfriendly environment. Volunteering seems to be discouraged other than for fundraising and large events such as field day and book sales in the library. In years previous to the change in administration, the volunteer room was busy with menial tasks that we as parents are happy to do. Headroom parents decorated hallway bulletin boards. Last year, that task was taken away and very little volunteer work was to be seen. This year, there have been no requests for workroom help. It is very sad that volunteers have been cut out of our school. Having young children see parents involved and helping out shows that parents place value in their education. There are so many negative things happening that as a parent I feel helpless to make a difference. Letters to the admin are not fully addressed and usually deflected without solutions presented or considered when offered. Walking into the front office and you can feel the tension. There is something terribly wrong with our school and no one seems to be able to break through to make positive changes.

I've had two children go thru N.Hampton Elm and one presently attending. I can say without hesitation this school does not have the children's education at heart. There were no problems with my first child, a classic learner and pleaser. My second child a sweet pleaser girl with ADD was a different issue. After a string of meetings and pleas for help with her reading, we were left with a big fat nothing! she is now a senior and has learned her own coping strategies, but still struggles. THANKS for NOTHING! Things have remarkably gotten worse with my son. He's currently being pushed thru even though his skills are well below his grade level. I had to beg for testing which resulted in nothing. His teachers have been for the most part completely devoid of any care or ability to do anything for him except repeat a worksheet till he "passes". I've never had a teacher's website be up to date ever! Heck half the time I have no idea what homework he has! The administration is equally as disconnected and unobliging. In a nutshell this school is terrible.

Frankly I am surprised at the positive reviews this school has. In my experience, the administration and staff have been unfriendly and disinterested in interacting with parents. While my children generally like their teachers, I feel we are just a number at this school. There is little opportunity to volunteer in the classroom, and I don't feel much community at the school at all. There are so many strange and arbitrary rules. There are only two PTO meeting per year and really not much opportunity for involvement or support for new ideas. Overall, a disappointment.

We've been at Northampton for 6 years - my oldest is in 5th grade. Youngest is in 1st. Love it. Love the administration. LOVE the teachers. Great group of parents, very active PFO - truly great kids.
