Our 4th child is going through this school now and all the other 3 we have had nothing but great teachers. They care about the kids and this school sits tucked back away from any busy streets which we really love. We love this school as parents.

Just step inside this school and you can see what a great place it is. The teachers proudly display their students accomplishment on the walls outside their class rooms. The teachers and staff know all the students by name and readily respond to each individuals' needs. Parents are always welcome and encouraged to take part in their child and schools activities. The PTO sponsors many fun activities every month of the year.

My children have loved going to school here, and I've been pleased with the teachers/staff. It also earned a WA State Acheivement Award in 2010 (only one of a few on the entire east side of the state). I wish there was more parent involvement, but that can be expected for a low/middle class neighborhood. The teachers are doing all they can with any child they are given.

I went in to enroll my soon to be Kindergartner and soon to be 1st grader from Spokane Public School District into West Valley School District and felt very confident as I walked through the doors because of the ratings it has received. I was, unfortunately, forced to change the way I felt as I was filling out the paper work. There was a teacher dealing with a 1st grade boy who might/might not have had some attention issues and she was speaking to him, in my eyes very wrong. In a scolding tone said "You never learn, you're almost in second grade, why won't you learn! You are going to call your father" And when he refused she looked at him and then said "I do not look like your mother, you will call your father yourself" The boy called his father and she continued to refuse to talk to him unless the boy talked first. I will update my review if I have chosen to stay in this district and work it out with the principle so that my soon to be first grader will not have to be spoken to in such a way. That is if I choose not to keep him in his district and school where it is NOT okay to speak to 6-7 year olds that way.

The Washington Policy Group gave Ness an EXEMPLARY rating! Only 1 or 2% of all schools (2,000+) in the State of Washington earn such a rating! They were the only School in the Spokane area to get to this level! Also, they won a award as a top preforming school from the State Office of the Superitendent! Great job to all the students, teachers, staff, and principle at Ness Elementary School!

Yesterday, 4-21-11, I was one of about 10 grand parents / parents accompaning 3 Ness Elementary classess on a field trip at the Gonzaga / WSU / EWU campuses in the Spokane area. I was pleasantly surprised to find the trip well planned with each group of students assigned to an adult; activities well coordinated and conducive of learning throughout the day; students engaged in thaugt provoking discussions about the suroundings and environment and the teachers being respectful and always engaged with the students. I appreciated the chance to further learn that my 2 grandchildren going to this school are well taken care of and given the opportunity to learn and develop with the best guidance provided by the Ness Elementary staff. Thank you. GT
