My son is a rising 8th grader and last year was the first year he has ever wanted to go to school. The teachers seem engaged and reach out without hesitation when necessary. There are also plenty of opportunities for extracurricular activities.

I am a student at Smithfield Middle School, and my experience was.. okay I guess. I never really talked to anyone, but I did click with like 2 people. The teachers were relatively nice, and I have a good time in Gym. Mr. Robertson and Ms. Sowden are great teachers, so I did very well in English and Math. Wouldn’t really recommend if you have money, but for a nearby free public school it is pretty normal. Fights are frequent though.

Smithfield middle school is a great School! The faculty and staff over the year's have changed and the school is now better than ever. I walk around the school everyday and I see wonderful smiling children, and the Teacher's are alway's on top of their game and doing anything and everything for their children.

This school offers a lot of great academic opportunities that other schools don't offer. The kids here are nicer than schools in bigger cities. The classroom sizes are decent and the faculty and staff do their best to help us!

If you are a military family looking to move to the Carrollton/Smithfield area be cautious of this school. While the teachers here are wonderful and the classroom sizes are small (about 20-22 students per class) the kids that attend this school are very racist (reverse racism) and disrespectful! Some of the things that were being said to my son are unmentionable. After brining these issues to the administration I was told that these things are tolerated because there is no other school in the area for kids to attend. So, while kids will be suspended for a few days for bullying and being racial, the kids are always allowed back at school to continue the behavior. Essentially, Kids are given a free few days off from school for bad behavior, but nothing more is ever done to the repeat offender! As a parent this was a no brainer and after dealing with it on more than one occasion I decided after the first few weeks of the 2014-2015 school year to withdraw both my kids. I also live in a neighborhood with allot of other families who have encountered these same issues with this middle school and ended having to move to a different school district to get their kids away from this school.

I grew up in the Smithfield school system and the only thing that has changed is the SOL system; which I'm not a fan of. The teachers claim that the reason why my son has no books to bring home is because the content doesn't follow the SOL criteria. Instead of bringing home books to follow he brings home hand written, reprinted sheets that have no guidance for the parents to assist with homework. I have resulted in using old math and reading books to help.
