Evergreen School has been an exceptional experience for our family. The school fosters a warm and intellectually stimulating environment, where students are encouraged to explore their interests and think critically. The teachers are highly dedicated and supportive, creating a classroom atmosphere that inspires curiosity and a love for learning.Beyond academics, Evergreen excels in social-emotional support and inclusivity. When my child temporarily needed a wheelchair, the teachers, staff, and school nurse provided incredible support to ensure a smooth and comfortable experience. Their kindness and attentiveness made a significant difference, showing how much they truly care for each student’s well-being.The school also cultivates a strong sense of community, where parents are welcomed as partners in their children's education. The administration is engaged and responsive, making sure families feel heard and supported.Overall, Evergreen is a fantastic choice for families seeking a well-rounded, high-quality education that nurtures both academic excellence and personal growth.

Our eighth grader has attended Evergreen since kindergarten and we couldn’t be more thankful for the kind, inclusive culture, the focus on executive function, and the academic and socioemotional preparedness for high school. The faculty cares so much about our kiddo, and the parent community is the best. We couldn’t have made a better choice for our child and family.

This is our family’s 10th year at The Evergreen School, and it has been a great experience for our boys. We love that social-emotional learning is incorporated into most aspects of the school experience. Students are challenged academically and taught to be aware of the world around them through various social and cultural experiences. When our son was in 6th grade, his class visited a Mosque, a synagogue, and a church among other cultural and community learning. Our boys love to learn and be challenged, and Evergreen has met that need for curiosity. We love the community and all the opportunities for family connections. At Evergreen, students are taught to speak up for what they believe is right. They celebrate social justice and it is a welcoming community.

My child has attended The Evergreen School since kindergarten, and our experience has been exceptional. In just one year, he transformed from a shy boy into a confident, expressive individual. The school's warm environment ensures that families feel cared for and safe. Teachers and staff are kind and respectful, honoring each child's unique character. The thoughtfully designed curriculum fosters intellectual growth and personal development. Each grade has a dedicated support team to assist students with diverse needs. Integrating SEL fosters improved academic performance, better emotional regulation, and stronger interpersonal relationships. Students develop empathy and resilience, equipping them to navigate challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Careful of all the generic reviews on here about SEL that sound like the admissions team wrote it. On the curriculum side, the math program is lacking by being overly manipulatives heavy and is taught in a very roundabout and pedagogically questionable way. My kid who scored 99+ percentile on his IQ test would still get very confused on simple math concepts like multiplication ratio tables in 3rd grade, something that shouldn't take more than a few minutes of clear instruction to explain. There's a lot of teacher turnover. The resource teacher is good, but she can't fill all the gaps. The foreign language classes are also mostly fluff. It's not immersion or conversational. After a few years of foreign language, my kid knows just a few words. I think it's pretty low yield. The BIG lab is cool, but I was also disappointed with how rarely it's used each school year (shared space for all grades so limited time per grade). It's a commuter school so all the kids come from everywhere in the metro area (many from Eastside too), playdates are far away. This school goes through the mechanics of teaching my kid to be a global citizen and social justice with a heavy dose of progressive Seattle political dogma, but I'm not sure it actually teaches my kid to be a better and more complete whole person. It's like taking vitamins instead of eating whole foods if you know what I mean. Overall it's a very coddled environment, some parents like that though, I'm unsure if it's actually what our kids need.

We are a new family at The Evergreen School. We chose Evergreen as we felt it could meet the needs of our two very bright and very different kids. It's warm and welcoming environment, in addition to the emphasis on creativity and global citizenship, prompted us to chose it over other gifted programs. We also love the large campus and all of the Evergreen trees. We have been very impressed by the Head of School, Halsey Bell. We often hear him say that families come to Evergreen for the creative, gifted education and stay for the community. He even offered to spend 45 minutes with each new family individually just to get to know us (there were over 60 new families this year)! We have appreciated how involved all of the families are and all of the events the school throws - so far we have participated in parents' nights out to breweries, a Sounders game and a Harvest Festival in the fall. Most importantly, our kids just love school and never want to come home anymore! We love this school!

Our family absolutely loves The Evergreen School and we couldn't be happier with the educational experience our child is receiving here. From the moment we stepped on campus, we were welcomed by a warm and inclusive community that truly makes you feel like part of the school family. The teachers are not only highly skilled but also deeply passionate about helping each student succeed. It’s been wonderful to see our child develop strong social and emotional skills in such a nurturing environment. The school's focus on the "whole child" is evident in everything they do. They foster not just academic excellence, but also personal growth, character development, and emotional well-being. It's a place where children are encouraged to be their best selves, and where learning feels like an exciting journey, not just a task.

When my eldest child was applying to kindergarten, our hope was to find a school that balanced challenging academics with strong social-emotional learning (SEL). The Evergreen School couldn't be a better fit. Academically, Evergreen is a wonderful environment for bright, curious kids. The school really understands the phenotype of a "gifted" child and is able to both challenge and nurture them. In addition to strong foundational programs (like math and reading), I love that Evergreen has the BIG Lab (an innovative maker’s space), three foreign languages (Spanish, French and Mandarin), and lots of specialist classes to nurture their creativity. It’s really wonderful to see that my curious kid is always learning new things and excited to come home and share them with our family every day.Just as important as academics for our family was SEL. Particularly because my kids are young, I wanted them to feel safe and secure - where they would thrive socially and emotionally, building self-awareness and confidence in these critical early years of school. I have totally seen this happen at Evergreen, where my son (who is a bit perfectionistic) has felt comfortable making mistakes without any pressure to perform or compete. From integrated community service, to a thoughtful buddy program (which pairs younger kids with middle schoolers), to regular class meetings with the a school counselor to discuss social dynamics/emotions/etc., my son is developing critical skills that I hope will make him a kind, compassionate, and thriving human.Beyond academics and SEL, I have been very impressed with Evergreen’s diverse community. Everyone has been incredibly warm and welcoming. Through all of the school’s planned events and gatherings, we’ve already built strong relationships with other parents. It really feels like family.I am truly so grateful for Evergreen - including the community, the administration, and the amazing teachers. As a parent, seeing your child thrive is such an incredible feeling - and Evergreen has certainly done that for us!

We wanted a school for our children that would nurture their love of learning, and Evergreen has been excellent in every way. Evergreen is a wonderful community. The faculty and staff are organized. The curriculum is structured, yet incorporates creativity and exploration. Students are supported. There is an emphasis on social-emotional learning from an early age. Our kids love the many specialist classes, including world language (Mandarin, French, Spanish), technology, the Big Lab makerspace, art, and music.

We have 3 children. Our two older children started at Evergreen in Middle school and our transition there was wonderful. Each of them felt fully integrated into their classes and kept marveling at how nice their classmates were and all the cool stuff they were learning in their classes. I loved the down-to-earth parent community and transparency of the teachers and administrators. The students lead the parent teacher conferences and their organization, presentation abilities and learning and reflection about goals both academic and social-emotional really impressed me. Our youngest child started at Evergreen in PreK and has loved every year. We adore the parent community and are so grateful for the teachers and support staff. Some of our children have learning differences and we felt a wonderful partnership with the teachers to help our children succeed and love school.

We were drawn to The Evergreen School due to the warm, welcoming feeling the school exudes, in addition to a creative gifted education on a large, beautiful campus encompassed by Evergreen trees. We could not love it more! The curriculum is advanced, creative, and keeps our kids challenged, while also individualizing learning. We love that they have so many specialist classes (P.E., art, music, library, technology and foreign language) and multiple recesses per day. It is fun that the kids get to choose the language they want to learn starting in first grade after an introduction to Mandarin, Spanish and French in Pre-K and K. The kids are outdoors frequently and we love how nature is incorporated into the curriculum, including the use of the school’s wetlands area, neighboring Twin Ponds and big beautiful trees on campus. The emphasis on SEL and DEI are strong and our kids are self-aware, kind, empathetic and culturally sensitive. The parent community is amazing and the school frequently throws events to keep the bond between families strong. They also have great field trips, grade level camps and a four-week international trip in 8th grade. Not to mention the extensive after school enrichment programs and no-cut sports teams offered! Most importantly, our kids just love school and love being on the beautiful campus. They have made so many friends who share their same love of learning and curiosity. It is a relief as parents that our kids are among peers just like them - we do not worry about them being bullied or feeling different because of their deep desire to learn like we may have at other schools. Our kids are safe at Evergreen. This school is magic and we are so grateful our kids get to spend their childhoods here!!

As a former parent, I cannot say enough about our experience at Evergreen. My child was challenged, supported and engaged throughout their 10 years at the school. The capstone global studies trip in eighth grade is unlike anything that I've seen at other schools. It taught my child independence, self-reflection, and empathy. Thank you, Evergreen!

Our family has had an incredibly positive experience at The Evergreen School. From day one, the faculty and staff have been dedicated to providing a supportive and enriching environment for our child. The small class sizes allow for individualized attention, which has helped foster not only academic growth but also social and emotional development. One of the standout aspects of Evergreen is the way they challenge and engage highly capable students. The curriculum is thoughtfully designed to encourage critical thinking, creativity, and curiosity. Our child feels excited about learning, and we’ve seen significant growth in their confidence and ability to tackle complex subjects. The teachers really understand the unique needs of gifted learners and go above and beyond to ensure that each child is supported and challenged at their own level.Additionally, the sense of community at Evergreen is strong. Families are actively involved, and the school creates opportunities for students to build meaningful relationships across grade levels. There’s a real emphasis on kindness, empathy, and inclusivity, which has helped our child feel safe and accepted. If you’re looking for a school that understands and nurtures the whole child—academically, socially, and emotionally—The Evergreen School is a wonderful choice. We feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this community!

As someone who attended this school for my whole childhood I can fully say it was the worst choice I could’ve made. Don’t waste your money

Things I wished I asked before enrolling my kid: what percentage of kids are doing private tutoring and supplementing with after school programs like RSM or AoPS? What are the 8th grade to high school exmission outcomes and what have the trends been in the past five years? What percentage of the class is 2e and how does this impact the school socially? To what extent does nepotism and big donors play in the administrative decisions and student favoritism at this school?Don’t let all the good reviews fool you. The academics (with the exception of the tedious and slow Bridges math curriculum) are good but this is not the best school for social emotional development. You’re paying $40k private school tuition for what is basically an Eastside highly capable public school experience. Your kids would also be surrounded by many kids with screen and video game addictions.

This school has been amazing for my two children and we feel so fortunate that they attend Evergreen. The focus on highly capable and also SEL is what really stands out. That and the incredible experiential learning that takes place on the Global Studies trip. Amazing, caring faculty top it off. Could not be more thrilled with the school.

Don’t let their praises of diversity and inclusion fool you. The school values one thing - money. If your family is extremely wealthy, you’ll be accepted with open arms. If your family offers racial diversity, but less money, you might be offered aid. If not, and you’re middle or even upper middle class, and experience a financial setback, they will not hesitate to deny your request for aid and replace your children with those whose families have deeper pockets. Our experience at Evergreen broke our hearts. Our children still talk about how hard it was to leave their friends as well as the community after several years at the school. If you can afford it, Evergreen can and does offer something special (well, except for the math curriculum). Just brace yourself for the day that your first grader asks if your family is poor because you don’t spend all of your school breaks abroad or on the ski slopes at Whistler.

Before going to the Evergreen School, we had many experiences in local excellent private schools and public schools. I would say that the Evergreen School is so far the best for my kid. We are very satisfied with the quality of education, the organized management, and the welcoming atmosphere everywhere. It is a school that truly cares about the differences between kids. Their excellent curriculum enables kids to explore and try many new things and find their strengths. It is a true place for us to nurture kids' curiosities. I think the kid who has good learning habits will benefit the most at this school. We highly recommend it to families who are looking for a decent gifted private school.

Our children entered in 3rd and 5th grade and were warmly welcomed by the community. While the academic curriculum is rigorous, it is equally matched by a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and social-emotional learning. Our children have developed self-awareness, a commitment to social justice, and the executive functioning skills to engage in deep learning. Opportunities to apply learning through projects, collaboration, and real-world tasks, really prepared my eldest daughter for high school. As parents, we feel incredibly grateful for the opportunities the school has afforded our kids!
