Kellogg Middle School in Shoreline is truly an exceptional place for students. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I felt welcomed by both the staff and students. The teachers are not only knowledgeable but also genuinely care about each student’s success. They provide extra help when needed and encourage us to reach our full potential. The school's music program, including the band and orchestra, is outstanding. The orchestra recently placed first in a Shoreline School competition, showcasing the students' and instructors' talent and dedication. It's a fantastic opportunity for those interested in music to thrive. Academically, my experience has been very positive. The curriculum is engaging and challenging, helping me to see significant improvements in my reading and math scores. There are also plenty of extracurricular activities to get involved in, making finding a community within the school easy. While bullying can sometimes be an issue, the overall environment is kind and respectful. Students are encouraged to support one another, and the staff actively addresses any concerns. Overall, I highly recommend Kellogg Middle School. It’s a wonderful and enjoyable place to learn and grow, with excellent opportunities to make lifelong friends along the way.

This school lacks honesty, morals and integrity, THE WORST SCHOOL EVER! There are so many serious problems that go on it that school but the teachers there don't really care. The overwhelming majority of the school's staff are rude and very abrasive. As former student of this awful school i strongly say Don't go here, if you can go somewhere else.

This school is ok, but there are a lot of bad qualities. Last year, we had multiple actual lockdowns because of people entering our campus without permission, so I would say that it is kind of not the safest place, but is safe in some situations. Our school got on the news a few times because there have been a couple of fights, and another reason was that the staff has caught kids in the bathrooms doing things such as vaping. On the other hand, we have had at least 3 fights, but no lockdowns or anything along the lines of that. One reason I think the Special ed programs are ok is that many kids in our school have 504 plans, and they are ignored. That sucks because many people need help with focusing, but that is neglected by some teachers. One thing that many students and teachers are concerned about is the hole of debt that is getting deeper and deeper. We have had fundraisers and ways to get more money, but we still haven't been able to fix the problem. Another problem we have is that sometimes the boys of our school mess around in the bathrooms and then they get closed, meaning you most likely will have to walk halfway across the school just to use the bathroom. The problem with that is we have a limit for how long you can go out of the classroom to use the bathroom. The expectation is that you take 5 minutes max, but when the bathrooms near you are closed, you have to spend at least 5 minutes walking to the bathroom, 5 minutes to use the bathroom, and then 5 minutes back. That means you are out of the class for a very long time, and that means your teacher is mad at you for being out for a while, and you also missed 15 minutes of learning that you may have needed for a lesson. Another design flaw of our bathrooms is that the faucet is too close part of the sink, so while you're washing your hands, you're getting your hands dirty again. Teachers tell you to have a growth mindset, but it is almost physically impossible to when you are exposed to our school environment, AKA one of the worst school environments you could imagine. One final thing about our school. The wifi here is so spotty, that it's like playing roulette with working wifi. So, as you can see, Kellogg needs some work on a lot of major and minor issues.

I am currently in this school, and my experiences have been mixed. On one hand, The learning quality is excellent. The teachers are respectful to students and add humor to their lessons. But the much bigger issue is the state of students. Students at this school are rude and also say vulgar swears. This issue is especially evident in the buses. In there, students scream awful words at each other, with people even trading "racist word passes" to each other. Even in the school building, students often swear at each other, with the school system doing nothing to stop it. A new student could simply not feel safe in this environment. Overall, I would not recommend going to this school.

The school has a wonderful orchestra. It is great to see so many students who are in band and orchestra. The music instructor Mark Adamo does an excellent job in promoting a passion for music. Mrs. Hulbert the Spanish teachers has all the kids singing and speaking Spanish. Mrs. Payne does a wonderful job in teaching math. The math club at Kellogg is also top notch and is taught by dedicated parents/industry professionals that have a passion for math. The athletics have the best coaches and there is a sport for every child to get involved in. The basketball program is competitive and attracts the best talent in coaching. Equity and family advocacy supports do a great job in supporting those individuals that need it the most. Yes it looks like a jail from the outside but the interior is clean, airy and flooded with natural light. The back drop of forested Hamlin park creates a sense of peace and serenity. Excellence can be found here at Kellogg through the partnership of dedicated families and caring adults.

My son has been at Kellogg for 2 years. The school is brand new & is very impressive. Location is ideal directly next to large Hamlin Park & Shorecrest High School, also new with superior facilities. The kids don’t have lockers, however & instead have to lug 20+ lb backpacks with books & laptop from class to class. Sports programs are excellent with high levels of participation, more so than the rival schools. I’ve had good experience interacting with coaches & faculty.

*Overall ok, but mostly feel something is strongly lacking with leadership from Principal Hiatt. See comment in Leadership section.*Some general inappropriateness. Counselor crossing lines; my student said a particular counselor would flirt with a teacher in class hallways at start of class for at least 10 min where visible to entire students. *I've emailed Principal Hiatt and never received a reply on another issue. *Hope concerts would be more mindful of parents' time. They'd go on forever because instrumental teacher wouldn't tune BEFORE the concert so you have to suffer through ~60+ students tuning their instruments 2-3 times. *Barely could hear the principal/hosts at parent events due to mic problems.

I've had two children attend Kellogg and the experience was excellent for both. Kellogg has high standards for academics and a supportive atmosphere. They are very aware of the latest research and issues around anti-bullying and screen time. Whenever there's a problem, it's been addressed. And they have an outstanding music program! Not so strong on sports but we're not into that anyway. My son had one teacher that was phoning it in but she retired and have had no bad apples since. Overall, a wonderful experience.

i like this school i was in 7th grade last year now im in 8th. i like the pe teacher he is cool and my math teacher is good at teaching. i also like how when i walk home after school i feel safe.

I have one kid in 8th and one in 7th. It seems to me that many of the children do not get the help they need to succeed here. My oldest is in all the honor classes and excels with little or no teacher help. Not all kids are this fortunate. Throughout last year he was appalled at the number of classmates who were failing in classes and did not appear to care, the school did not appear to care, and little if anything was done to help. There is a lot of 'team work" and "team grades" and it lowered my son;s GPA to a 3.7 because of team mates not doing their work. Overall he seemed to get a good education because he put in the work and the time. God help us this year with the youngest.....

This is not the school that everyone thinks it is, the staff is unsupportive and uncaring of the students. I graduated years ago and still specifically remember some staff members in particular in which I despise.. This is not the school to send your child to, unless you want a low quality and, to put it simply, silly education. DO NOT GO HERE, if you have the option, go anywhere else on the planet.

My son went to Kellogg for a short time until I transferred him to a private school. My son has Asperger's Syndrome which is a type of autism. Issue 1: The English teacher gave him failing grades on his papers even though he was meeting requirements. She said that during lectures, he was drawing pictures so she was not going to pass him. Issue 2: I put my son into Sylvan to help with his school assignments. The teachers refused to work with Sylvan. Issue 3: The school told me they were putting him into a class for kids with behavioral problems such as getting into fights! My son had never been in a fight and he was very shy and was terrified of physical confrontation. When he took tests for grade placement in private school, he was testing at second year college levels for reading, writing, and science so giving him failing grades on all of his English papers was truly unfair (he had A's in science).My son went to Kellogg for a short time until I transferred him to a private school. My son has Asperger's Syndrome which is a type of autism. He went to the school before he was diagnosed.
