We were at this school for three years, and while the preschool program was good, everything went downhill starting in kindergarten. They allowed a student to punch and choke multiple kids and the principal did absolutely nothing about it. She shrugged it off as "normal behavior," which is beyond unacceptable. To make matters worse, the principal refused to move my son out of the same classroom as the disruptive student until we escalated the situation further. It shouldn’t take persistent pushing from parents to ensure basic safety for their children. It’s shocking to see the lack of concern from someone in a leadership position. We escalated these serious concerns to the father who oversees the school, expecting some accountability, but his response was minimal at best. It was clear that the well-being and safety of students were not a priority. The school failed at protecting students, fostering a respectful environment, and taking accountability.

My experience as a parent is more than "it's a great school". It's a school that makes you go "WOW!" It makes you want to bring everyone you know to the school to see the amazing things the school and students are doing to be better people and representations of the community. The children that go to this school are on their way to be very successful and compassionate people. I love to see the children going above and beyond to open doors for people, asking others if they need help carrying something down the hall or picking up a mess that spilled from a lunch tray in the cafeteria. I enrolled my children in this school not knowing anyone, but after a few days of watching how things work, I was assured I picked the best school for my children. The school made me want to better myself to be a better parent to my children, so I started volunteering at the school. Here I have made amazing friendships with other parents, found a way to fulfill the empty void by being a part of something great, and became a role model for my children's friends. Last year was rough on everyone having to be home due to Covid, but we all found ways to connect to support each other. The teachers went above and beyond to make sure their students were being taken care of. If this meant going to the student's home to wave through the window they did it. This year the teachers are doing everything they can to keep the children in the classroom. This means social-distancing with friends, washing hands, reminding parents and students the importance of cleanliness by washing water bottles everyday and changing out masks when someone sneezes. The awesome part is the students know this so well they are reminding parents of the importance of cleanliness. I could go on and on about how AWESOME Sacs is, but until you see it for yourself words can not describe the safe warm feeling you get when you are there.

Shakopee Area Catholic School (SACS) is a wonderful, caring, academically challenging, diverse, faith-based school. We have attended pre-k thru 5th grade so far. Teachers, office staff...yep, everybody knows your name. And most importantly, they care about the students.

We originally planned to send out children to SACS for Pre-School only but were so impressed with the staff, curriculum, safe environment, and religious component of the school that we stayed. Fast forward to now we have had five full years of wonderful experiences for both of our kids. We are not catholic, but having the moral and religious teachings incorporated in their learning has been wonderful for our family.

We could not be happier with our decision to switch to SACS. We have children prospering in both their preschool and grade school programs. The kids are appropriately challenged for where they are on their growth curve and continually feel supported on their educational journey. The teachers create a warm, trusting environment for the children to learn in and the energy at the school is contagious... you just want to be a part of it! On top of all that, children also develop value and moral frameworks by multiple service projects throughout the year; even in preschool, they learn the importance of helping others. It really is so much more than a school... it's a community we are proud to be a part of.

SACS has been more than a school to my children and family. The school has been the village, the community, where my husband and I have raised our children along-side other parents who are sharing our successes and our struggles. SACS has a small town feel, and I am thankful my own children get to experience that type of community. My older children who have graduated from SACS were well-prepared for high school, took honors and AP classes and ranked within the top 10 students in a high school class of over 600 students. It has the feeling of a small town small community where my children are recognized and called by name throughout the school and as a parent I am seen as a partner in education.

In all honesty, the 5 years I spent here were some of the worst years of my life. I came in as a new student and everyone else had known each other since kindergarten and were in established cliques. The high scores SACS boasts about? They’re all reliant on a few top students. I was in the same class as people who still couldn’t read at an average level or multiply numbers. The school is incredibly lacking in diversity and I was at the receiving end of endless racism, bullying, and harassment during my time there. If you’re not white or rich there is no place for you. The teachers never seem to have a handle on their class and there is usually VERY little learning and teaching happening. I’ve had issues with multiple teachers there. Bullying is taken with a grain of salt ( unless you’re wealthy, that is ). I was left extremely unprepared for high school and my experience at SACS left me with extreme social anxiety and depression. Overall, even the public school is far better.

I could not imagine sending my children to any other school PreK-8th. Their foundation of faith, academics, and self-worth led them to strive beyond their years at SACS. They’ve been supported, challenged, and are known at this school.

SACS is a school community like no other. Focusing on not only education, but developing well rounded individuals. We have been a SACS family for 8 years and couldn't be more proud of our school!

We couldn't be happier with our experience at SACS. The Faith based values, community feeling with the families/students/faculty is incredibly energizing and rewarding. We are so glad that our daughters went to SACS.

In addition to academics, SACS offers opportunities to grow in faith and leadership. Parental involvement is high, and there is a collaborative family feel between the parents, teachers and students.

All of our kids attended pre-K through 8 and were very prepared for high school. Faith based education is important in our society today to start our children on the right path for their future.

Wonderful! Academically challenging (especially strong middle school math program) while shaping the whole person. Families are highly engaged and have a strong sense of community.

Our experience at SACS has been phenomenal. We feel our kids are cared for and the community is more like a family than a school. Our kids have succeeded in school and have loved their experience. The teachers and staff, along with students and families, are second to none and we feel extremely fortunate to be a part of SACS.

We love SACS and would encourage everyone to send their kids there. The class sizes are smaller and they work hard on developing more than just the academic piece. We have made some many amazing friendships while our children have attended SACS and we love the family feel we get the minute we walk in the door.
