The administration at this school is great! From the principal, to the teachers, to the custodians. Everyone is kind, respectful, and caring. My children have always gotten the attention they need.

School teachers are engaged and supportive. The administration is involved and the school goes above and beyond to help the students.

This is a strong school. Staff and parents are all involved in the success of the child as an individual.

I served on staff at this school and I am not a fan of multi-age classrooms. I also feel that the principal puts too much faith in a handful of teachers to "run the school." If you are not her favorite, your voice doesn't matter. What is popular, is not always what's best for students. I feel overall that SD 54 is going down hill. It is not the wonderful most sought after school district that I went to as a child.

Great school. Great teaches. Great programs/clubs (including a zoo!). Very impressed with this school, and happy that my children can attend.

The school environment at Collins is one of both caring and professionalism. The new principal is very hands-on and communicates effectively with parents. Teachers have positive attitudes and the learning environment is structured to allow for differentiation. At first, I was a little nervous about the split grades (classrooms are all 1st/2nd, 3rd/4th, and 5th/6th splits) but they have it well-organized and I can see the advantages (promotes differentiation, fewer discipline problems...) Overall, a great school!

I have had children at Michael Collins Elementary for over a decade. While the newer principal is trying to raise the "scores", the community involvement has taken a back seat. If the principal took the time to look back in the past to see why Collins was the NUMBER 1 school, she would find it was COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT. Parents that care have children that succeed! However, this school has become more of a closed door involvement school. Newer office staff does not recognize the importance of a smile goes a long way, the teachers are given "my way or the highway" parameters to deal with, and MANY of the great teachers have chosen the highway. Unfortunately, many of the teachers and staff who KNEW Collins school and the family/children by name, when they saw them, are no longer there. It is a cold learning environment that is sinking quickly on the District 54 list. It makes everyone sad to watch this, but, our super, Mr. Rafferty does not listen to John Q. Public.
