My child went to 1st grade in Lisa Schubauer’s class. The class had 21 kids, and the teacher was overwhelmed. Whenever I raised a concern, she often complained about having a crowded classroom. My observation and feedback I got from other parents indicated that she tends to favor certain kids and neglect others. My main issue was the language to which kids are exposed. I don’t think it is appropriate for 1st graders to learn about having crushes and cursing at such an early age. The school and the teacher should not allow this kind of language.

They are acting as if this is a private school and posting on social media all the travels the teachers made during the summer. Principal sends an email saying how much she traveled all around. Not every parent can take their kids to expensive vacations. We worked all summer and sent our kids to camps. Some of us did not even take a vacation at all. Not all kids are from rich families. Some students are poor and barely making it. Why talk about all the expensive vacations everyone is taking? They need to remind people working in this school that this is a public school not a private school. They ask for drinks which is called fill the fridge. They will ask this a few times a year. Why? Why are we responsible for providing drinks for the school employees?

The staff, administration, PTO, and families are amazing at this school. There are many opportunities for students to learn and grow. My child has thrived at this school. She has a disability and the staff has always been supportive of her needs.

My girls love this school! They are currently in the gifted program and it’s all because of their Kindergarten teacher who recommended they get tested! My girls are thriving in first grade in this school and they absolutely love their teachers! As a matter of fact when we are released for breaks they cry for their teachers because they will miss them! Everyone is professional and friendly from the Principal down to the Janitor. I thought about sending my girls to Pineview in the 2nd grade but I changed my mind after seeing how happy my girls are at this school! Their favorite things are the after school activities! This school keeps your little ones busy! You can’t have idle kids at this school! As far as homework! My kids first grade teach teacher does not give homework because she trains and works her students hard at school and she feels like home should be their break from school! Also, I don’t even live in the district of this school. I choice into this school with only 5 slots available and I’m glad I got in! Best move I’ve made for my kids development! This is my honest review of this school!

Where do I start.... Mean teachers. Only care about student test results so they can get their raises. Students tell substitutes how mean som teachers are. They will have a smear policy towards some kids and try to get them in so much trouble. Do your child a favor and do not move to this school zone. Find a school that your child won't be treated as a robot to score high in state exams. Terrible school...

I am so glad I removed my daughter in that school. My daughter receives ST and OT services. We moved from NY and every one always told us how great of a school Ashton was. They have a special needs class but don't understand that every students need is differrent or may be they do know but ignore it. The math and reading level they were teaching those kids were kindergarden/first grade level and at the time my daughter was in 3rd grade. During the IEP annual meeting I asked them if they can move my daughter to the general education class and pull her out only for her services. But they told me they don't think she was ready. I cried in the meeting because I felt they wanted to cripple my daughter. As an advocate for my child we ended up moving. Ever since she left and we moved to a different city, she has been in a general education class. She unfortunately had to do a lot of catching up but with the right teachers we were able to turn that page. She is thriving now!!!! I thought about emailing the teachers and the principal to show them how much my daughter is thriving but honestly they are beneath me and they honestly wouldn't care. So I am writing this review mostly for parents who have a child with an IEP who just needs a little extra help. Please be careful with those "special needs" class unless your child really needs.

This is a left wing liberal school. If that is what you are looking for, then you will be very happy. Children who don't wear masks are discriminated against. LGBTQ is taught in the classes. The worst part is that the principal does not care. If there was any type of leadership, then the liberal ideology could be controlled so teachers would focus on education. I've already removed my son, after 2 years with this school. The counselors are just as bad as the principal.

My son was taught about sexuality from his first grade teacher. Ms. Jarvis didn't even take my calls. It was so disgusting, I removed him from the school the very same week. Find a charter school instead.

Both of my kids attended this school, one of them in the REACH (gifted) program. Fantastic teachers, most of them going above and beyond in teaching and engaging the kids. The staff is organized, friendly and always ready to help. We moved from Northern VA (Fairfaix County) and this school far outreach our previous school.

This school is not for nice kids. It's for little rough types. The School counselor and the Principal are useless! Good luck if you send your precious little one here. It's run by WT, and only their kind will fit in.

My daughter attended Ashton for 2nd grade and was in the gifted classroom. Her teacher had almost 30 years experience, but seemed to have no understanding of gifted children and their emotional sensitivities or mental health issues. The school counselor was not any better. My daughter is not an easy child, with a genius IQ, she has a tendency to question authority, has poor peer social interaction, sensory processing disorder, dyslexia, dysgraphia, social and separation anxiety. None of these are uncommon among gifted children and this should be no problem if you understand them. Unfortunately this school did not. A few weeks into the school year, I was blind-sided at a parent/teacher conference in which I was told my daughter was the most disrespectful child the teacher had ever met. When I discussed with them that a psychologist had wondered if she had ADHD, I was told to medicate her or she would turn to drugs and alcohol later in life. After a horrible year that destroyed her self-esteem and self-efficacy, we decided to move back to OK. Here she is accepted, understood and loved at her school. She is a Kiwanis Terrific Kid, and Vice President of her student council.

Ashton is the most amazing school. The teachers are brilliant and engaging. My children are so happy at school. We moved from Illinois three years ago and I could not be happier. No bullying or mean cliques. The PTA goes way beyond and we are thrilled to be part of such a great school.

We love Ashton! We moved here partway through the school year last year, and my kids were made to feel welcome and comfortable right away. Last year and this year they have incredible teachers who relate so well to the kids, who give (for the most part) interesting, challenging assignments, and who maintain excellent control of their classrooms in a calm manner. My kids always enjoy the fun projects they work on, and hardly realize they are learning so much in the process. The principal, Mr. Renouf is always friendly and approachable, and really gets to know all of the students and families. The school does a wonderful job of, despite its size, offering such a warm, nurturning environment.
