I am writing about my child's experience duringn the 2023-2024 school year. Unfortunately, we encountered multiple issues that significantly impacted our trust in the school's ability to provide a safe and supportive environment. The leadership of the school to be lacking. The principal seemed underqualified to effectively manage the needs of the students, which contributed to several ongoing challenges throughout the year. Bullying for one, was not adequately addressed, and there were repeated incidents where my child’s life-saving medication was either misplaced or administered incorrectly. This oversight raises serious concerns about the school's ability to manage the medical needs of its students. In addition, I observed students with special needs walking out of the school unnoticed, which further highlighted a lack of adequate supervision and care. Overall, my experience with White Point elementary was deeply disappointing. I believe that there is a significant need for improvements in leadership, student safety protocols, and general oversight to ensure that all students receive the care and attention they deserve.

Outstanding in all areas. A parent could not ask for a better place for their child to learn.

I love this school. My son started there in kinder and now he is a 5th grader. We had such a great experience with the principle and the teachers. This school will be missed.

We are going on our third year at White Point and we could not be happier with our experience. I have spent a lot of time on campus volunteering in classrooms and special events and have had an up close look at typical school days. I have to say I am very impressed! The teachers at this school are exceptional and genuinely happy to be there. This is reflected in their classrooms and has created a school full of happy children. I never have any qualms about what teacher my child will get next year! They all have treated our children like family and go above and beyond all expectations to ensure the success of their students. Some of the teachers here attended White Point as children...how cool is that! The principal is firm but approachable and is so involved with each of the classes. She can often be seen roaming the halls and pops in to classrooms to help celebrate occasions and give special recognition. You don't just see her when you are in trouble which I think is great! This school welcomes parents with open arms and as a result has high parent involvement. The PFO is excellent and works hard to fill in the gaps when teachers have special requests for their classrooms or the school is in need. As a native of San Pedro, I have always heard great things about this school and enrolling our children here was a no-brainer! I have never ran across anyone who attended this school over the past 20 years that didn't have fond memories of their time at this little school by the sea! Some of the teachers attended White Point as children...how cool is that! I look forward to the rest or out time here and am happy to help in any way I can to make this school as great as it can be =) We love White Point!!

My 3 children all attended White Point during the 7 yrs we were stationed in LA. My husband & I were worried about schools when we first arrived because we'd not heard good things about LAUSD. We were moving from the Fairfax County Public School (FCPS) system in Northern VA which is very highly rated & very competitive.Ms. O'Brien & all the White Point staff quickly allayed our fears. Our children were challenged & inspired to learn daily. When we were transferred back to the Northern VA area & FCPS all 3 kids were well prepared. In addition, I found White Point very welcoming. Teachers & staff were friendly, personable & open to discussion & dialogue about issues, both positive & challenging. Everyone was willing to work w/me to resolve &/or improve any situation that came up.My husband & I volunteered in all of our children's classrooms & at the school for most of the functions & fundraisers. We were always encouraged to be at school & we appreciated the open & positive atmosphere & attitude of the teachers & staff, not only toward all the students but toward the parents as well.I found Ms. O'Brien to be fair, respectful, diplomatic, tactful & professional while still being approachable, friendly & caring. I continue to be amazed that she knows each of her students names & most of their older & younger siblings' names too! I got to see many of her students return to tell her what a difference she made in their lives, that was pretty cool! So, is White Point perfect? Heck no!! Just as in any organization, there are differences of opinion, personality & work ethic. Not just among the staff but between the staff, students & parents. It's to be expected, we're all unique. The difference is that at White Point, they try to make it better, to make a positive difference in a child's life. Ultimately, that's what it boils down to, answering the question, "Does White Point do the best that they can do for the students?" & the answer is most definitely, "YES!!"If you're willing to work w/the teachers & staff at White Point, you will be able to work out a compromise for almost any situation. My experience there, bore that out. White Point is the gem of LAUSD! Our kids were blessed to start school there, it was a fantastic start for all of them. We are so thankful for the hard work & dedication of the White Point teachers & staff.

I feel this way because my kindergartener should have had a good experience, instead he got stressed out and now hates school because the way he was treated there. Way to strict to be kindergarten it's like he was in 3 rd grade. From the teacher complaining almost everyday about my son over stupid things, principal should not even work there all she does is cover up for the teacher and staff when they have done something wrong. T/a pulled my son from he sweat shirt. Parents that would help in class would make up lies my son didn't say to keep him in principles office and they would breath down his neck telling him we are watching you. Making my son feel like he was bad. They pretty much cornered my son. I gave it my all and even volunteered at that school and help to raise money but they are so ungrateful. I helped out till a week before I gave labor at that school for the sake of my child. I have more stuff I could say what has been done to us. A lot of it got personal but I'm just glad I got my son in south shores for 1st grade I already feel he will have a better year there. My son would cry almost everyday from that school. He use to have such high self esteem and now this school has changed him. What happens with no bullying, cause that's exactly how my son felt and I felt by this school. I don't care what the teacher had said about my son having a learning disability because she is no one to diagnose. I took him either way to get checked out to shut her up.! Guess what my son is smart! Even tho I know he is very smart! He was just a 5 year old that is still immature! She just didn't have patience! This summer I had to fix everything they did to my child , we aren't all the way there yet but he is so much better since being out of that school, he has stopped sleep walking and peeing himself during the day & night! Even the person who evaluated my son from learning disability said to take him out of that school that there were harming my child by the stress. Hope no one else's goes through this! Hope they get a better principal. She plays by her own rules!

Great school. Amazing teachers: Mrs. Bard, Mr. Manzanal, Ms. Proudy & Ms. Smith!!! Real talent right there! PFO (their version of a PTA) gets ridiculously political...which can get really silly. It's PFO not Congress! All in all, it is a great school and you will find nothing that can come close to how great it is there!

Such a great little school!!! Faculty and staff are very friendly, work great with the kids and love having parent volunteers. We'll be sad to leave this little gem of a school.

This was our first year at White Point with our son starting kindergarten. We have had a wonderful experience this past year and I look forward to the next. My son had Mrs. Bard for a teacher and really enjoyed her and her class. I love that the principal is very involved with the students and, in my opinion, takes excellent care of the school. I would definitely recommend this school.

I went to this school for my 1st Grade and 2nd grade. All I can remember is how wonderful I felt there. I loved going to school everyday. I would walk from my house and see the ocean and just was thrilled. I would cut through the vacant lots and get to school early.I cannot remember my teacher's name. What I do remember is how wonderful, kind and encouraging they were with me. I even remember a person called a "teachers aid" I did not know what that meant! OH by the way that was the school year 1963 and 1964. I was at this school when Kennedy was shot and I how we are came together at the school, keeping it together. What a great school. I'm all grown up now, almost 60 years old, and I give credit to the teachers and staff of this school for my success in life.

Great to see this school is still holding strong. I was a student at White Point 40 years ago! Mrs. Elizabeth Danky was Principal and my favorite teacher was Mrs. Krogh. She made a difference in my life! Thank you. Linda Borich-Seibert

There are a few teachers that are well prepared and challenged the students to do great like Ms. Duvanjak (1st grade) and Ms. Webb (2nd grade). Unfortunately, this year 3rd grade teacher, Mr. Manzanal has been less than an acceptable teacher. Since the beginning of the year my child has been struggling in the class(academical/socially). From a straight A+/very responsible kid to a child that come from school crying because he/she is afraid to go to class, not to mentioned that his/her reading/math scores dropped significantly compared to last year. We talked to the principal trying to find a way to help our child, and her response was " I can't do anything" straight forward. This teacher is known for having anger management and yell to the kids constantly. Sometimes give test to kids without sending homework for month other times he send homework without even explaining the material in class (i.e. a science project due in two weeks, with a CST in between and w/out explaining the kids about what it is a science project). We are very disappointed about this school and the support NOT received by the principal. From a parent and former teacher (15+ yrs teaching experience)

I was a student here 2006-2008. I loved this school. I was so sad when we moved (my dad was air force.) I when to kindergarten in Boston, Massachusetts, the rest of elementary and 6th in DC, and now am 7th in Denver. The students at white point were so friendly and the teachers were AMAZING and SO KIND. I have heard that camp CIMI was very fun though I was gone by 4th. Best school experience yet.

I've been a White Point parent for 9 years. Both of my children have had great teachers and they've enjoyed themselves at WP. There are plenty of opportunities for parents to get involved in. Notices are constantly being sent home informing parents of upcoming events. If you missed a notice, the "connect ed" phone messages are great because you always know what's happening at WP. The principal loves the students and knows EACH student by name. She enforces school policy and will help you in any way she can should a situation or problem arise. I've found the principal to be kind and helpful. Her door is always open. The ladies in the office know what they're doing and are very helpful. The PFO and teachers have created many fun activities for the students to take part in, too. Whether you are a new parent or a returning parent, there are always people there to welcome you. I've found this school to be organized and a great place to learn.

My son's Kindergarten teacher was amazing. I can't say enough positive things about her. He loved her, his friends and his school. He had a great experience. However, the school might as well be run by a bunch of monkeys. There's no organization. They wait until the last minute to inform the parents of things, if at all. Then they expect you to jump through their hoops. And if you are unable to meet their last minute demands, you are not a good enough parent. The principal is rude. Most parents can't stand her. And if you're not a member of the PFO, she doesn't like you either. Way too political for elementary school, in my opinion.
