I’m happy with my daughter’s teacher, but that’s it. On the first day of kindergarten my daughter was scared and cried for 10 minutes before an adult approached her to help. I’ve had the school call me multiple times asking why she was absent after she was dropped off on time, so they clearly can’t keep track of their kids. Staff are rude and unresponsive, then send emails asking parents to buy them snacks. I was hounded for weeks to complete a volunteer application and then there’s been no follow up for months. PTA is a joke. They spend most of their time asking for money. Drop off and pick up is a nightmare. People park in the middle of the road, fire lanes, and everywhere else they shouldn’t park. School is a train wreck.

My kids love going to school. Wonderful teachers and staff. It is a happy environment for my kids and as a parent.

The only Arts Magnet Elementary school in LAUSD.Great location with port view.New principal Wells transforming school.Great supportive community.Excellent choice for kids with an Arts focus.

This use to be a great school until the principal who use to be a teacher took over! Now the school has taken a turn for the worse with staff and parents being very displeased! She seems to make up her own rules, is unfair when it comes to discipline and pretty much does not have a clue on how to run a school! Schools are supposed to be all about the kids but in her case it's almost like she has her own personal agenda to benefit her and a certain few that buddy up to her! I can honestly say I am no longer happy with this school and if she continues to be principal my kids will no longer attend!

The principal unfortunately is the worst thing to ever happen to this school! On top of failing the students by not providing a safe campus (my child has been beaten up, and even threatened with bodily harm) she is cold and unwelcoming! She will not take the time to meet with parents about the crumbled PTO, and about the fact that this school has dismantled of all the arts.. (I.E. There is no art to grow on, music, choir, or drama)! Do not send your child here! Especially if they are gifted! The only plus side to this school is some amazing teachers.. Some! And I feel bad that they are forced into a corner with this woman as their leader! Where is the old principal?! This school needs a real one!

Hey, has anyone noticed lately a few familiar faces missing?? A beloved 5th grade teacher? Our #1 parent volunteer? A favorite substitute? Hmmmm?! Wonder what's happened to them? They have all been run outa school by our principals inability to be a leader. The only thing that is holding this school together is our AMAZING teachers. Someone mentioned bringing back our last principal, Mrs Saldivar? I wish!!! Our little school with a big heart is turning out to be a BIG mess. And who is to blame? Our principal. When you don't support those who have always supported you, you are going to have problems. Respect is earned.

I am wondering why my review just magically disappeared from the web site after a couple of days I posted it? Isn't this website partial and safe for all parents and teachers to express their point of view? What happened here? Just wondering...LAUSD receives a bomb threat and they cancel classes for that day. I received a phone call from Dodson notifying me first thing in the morning. From seventh street...nada! How much does it take to make and send a robocall to all the parents, even when we would have to hear the principal talking to us like if we were little kids? I heard from a friend that classes were cancelled but lots of parents drove to school only to find out there. What was the principal doing or thinking? What if our kids were in real danger? I guess it is the same as when there was a sewer leak at school and she didn't even bothered to notify us while the kids kept playing and walking all over it and smelling that stench. I guess the fact of getting a teacher that is not prepared really to be a principal shows in every aspect of the school, even when seeing how low scores had gone down since she took over...can we get Lisa Saldivar back? For her the kids were her #1 priority at all times!

I was shocked the other day when I walked in and saw the same lady who works for the school that used to make up outside the school with another employee, now hugging the librarian! She works at a school for Christ's sake! what kind of morale are we teaching our children... It is just wrong, and the district should step in for this...

For the parent who just said that the PTO is there to gossip and they include their children, well guess what, the children are included because the parents volunteer for THE CHILDREN. Where are the children supposed to go if their parents are there? By the way, check your spelling and grammar before you post something about a school. And remember, those women you are criticizing are there for your child and they spend their time there for your child also. I've been in there lots of times and the PTO president is there almost all day and she has her baby with her most of the time because as a stay at home mom she has decided to dedicate her time to the school and her children and she chooses to bring her child because she's not the type of mom to just leave her child with people. I think you shouldn't knock the parent who is there for your child to benefit. Maybe you should go and ask what you can do to benefit your child

Seventh Street Elementary's teachers consistently show a very ligh level of caring and professionalism. I personally know several teachers there who frequently attend additional trainings on their own time, on their own dime, so they can stay current with the latest trends in instruction and materials. They are warm, friendly, hardworking, dedicated teachers whose students look up to them and trust them. The principal is giving 110%, taking on a very diverse student body, a challenging economic climate, a burdensome and oppressive district, and still making every effort possible to be a friendly resource to students and their parents. The demands on her time are beyond imagining yet she is responsive and responsible. I would hope that all parents of Seventh Street students would look inward, think honestly about whether your children are well-rested, clean, fed, read to, encouraged and assisted with their homework, arrive at school on time ready to learn, and act as friends toward other children. It's a lot to ask of parents; and it is easy to point fingers and assign blame. We all share the burden; let's do it with kindness and good will.

My kids have been coming to this school since my oldest was in 1st grade ..he is now in 4th. The people that use to work in the office were very friendly and most of the teachers are pretty good. There's only one lady in the office that's friendly and always smiling and willing to help. I honestly do not like the new principal. She's not welcoming ..she's not friendly..she doesn't introduce herself to parents or doesn't say anything when we walk by her. She doesn't take the time to get to know the kids. It was all bad as soon as the last principal left! Seriously thinking bout pulling my kids out.

Seventh Street School offers a talented and commited teaching staff, invested not only in educating our kids, but also involving and encouraging parents questions and/or concerns. Ms. Sanchez has done an amazing job transitioning into her role as principal. Ms. Sanchez, in my experience, can be seen nearly every morning outside school greeting the kids as they are dropped off, often calling them by their first names and with a big smile on her face. She is approachable, and makes time to listen to the kids and parents as well. As with any school, parents need to get involved and stay involved year round. Raising good kids who learn to value education is NOT solely the responsibility of our schools. It starts at home, it starts with YOU. Seventh Street's PTO includes a dedicated president and vice president that are doing all they can to give our kids the best opportunities available. So, if you want to be part of a school that is highly motivated to promote learning, is involved and supported by its community, and embraces parental involvement, then Seventh Street is the school for you and your family.

As I read these reviews, I can t help but think, Are we talking about the same school and the same principal?? I have been a parent at 7th Street for a couple of years now and I have to say that all my interactions with the current principal have been very pleasant, both when she was a teacher and now in her current position. She has always participated in school events, like the talent show and Mc Donald s night with a smile on her face. Things mentioned in previous reviews seem unrelated to her current position and an unfair judgment. Yes, changes have occurred to the school, but change is good and sometimes it takes time for others to see it. I would recommend this school to any of my friends because I am happy with the leadership, teachers, staff, and the education my daughter is receiving.

I am appalled at the fallacies posted on here about the current principal. At Mc Teachers night her son bought raffle tickets! He was buying tickets right in front of me in the line! To stay on the subject of her son, what kind of parent talks about another persons child? Would you want people publicly talking about yours? I did see her son outside of McDonalds-waving at his friends through the window, but he was on the sidewalk, not the street and he wasn't the only child doing that. For the two years I have been at 7th I have ALWAYS been treated with respect And said hello to. My advice, maybe say hello first :-) I'm saddened by the lack of support for the current principal. I'm very happy as is my child. Oh and finally my child has a permit and I'm NOT Title I. Sheesh get the facts right before publicly attacking the leader of your child's school. I hope that this gets resolved, it sounds like a personal attack and doesn't belong on a school page. Be blessed all.

This school year has been a nightmare from the first day of school which was total chaos to all the changes the new principal. This principal is only there for a paycheck she does not care about our kids. The school gates in the morning do not open until 7:50 am and the kids are no longer allowed to play on the yard in the morning. If it was up to her our kids would not play on the yard at all. She is rude and not friendly at all! I've witnessed her on several occasions walk right past parents and not even say hello. if you're in the office she will walk right past you and not even look at you. I don't know why she even showed up at McTeachers she was unfriendly and just plain rude while her kids ran freely in the parking lot. This school has become over crowded with all the permits that we're giving out because the want the title 1 and the kids who are permitted in are all the bad kids and bullies and its unfair to the kids that 7st is there homeschool. As parents we have a right to speak up and do something about this. We need to start contacting our board member.

The teachers and staff at 7th street are great. The new principal is very rude and unprofessional. She lacks leadership and does not have our kids best intrest. The campus has a open door policy but does not feel that way. She will walk right pass parents without saying hello or even acknowledge them. This school year has been a total nightmare from the 1st Day of school. I have noticed a lack of parent involvement since the new principal including my self. We are looking into a new school.

My daughter attended last year and I loved everything about the school. This year is just horrible and I have had so many issues! The staff is rude at times, my child was thrown into a split class the first day of school due to high volume of new kindergarteners and no one bothered to notify me. She comes home and says sometimes her teacher doesn't help when asked. The school has gone downhill and I am no longer happy with it and will be looking into other schools.

As a first time LAUSD mom, I can honestly say I am pleased with 7th St. School! From everything to the enrollment process, to having access to the principal, to the amazing structure, creativity, and academic rigor in the class room, 7th St. has been a positive experience for us! School communication is clear and concise. The principal has been available and willing to discuss my concerns. I believe she has a vision for the school that not only upholds safety and fairness, but upholds high academic expectations as well. Isn't that what we want most for our kids--an opportunity to learn the most that they can in a fun and innovative way?! My daughter's teacher just blows me away! She is so kind and professional and pushes the children academically at just the right pace. I am excited to learn more about the school. I just joined the PTO and hope to support the school as much as I can.

I can't believe this school is going downhill. My daughter came to this school and we loved it. Such a wonderful school and memories!With such wonderful teachers and staff, opportunities for parents to get involved, and we got a new principal that doesn't even bother to say hi to the parents around the school. She doesn't reflects authority. The school lacks discipline, and good kids are being the victims of plenty of bad kids that can get away with whatever they do, because nobody does anything. Ridiculous rules like kids not allowed to play in the morning, and a principal that doesn't want to get her hands into dealing with all this kids that misbehave because THEY CAN and nobody will stop them. What happened to notes or phone calls to parents when a kid is being a brat? My grandkid had suffered from these situations, and it is getting worse every time. Punching, spitting, stealing, hitting, and nobody does anything. Amazing that an interim principal did much more for our school than our principal now.
