Yick Wo is a top-notch neighborhood school with wonderful teachers and staff, amazing academics, and an amazing PTO. The community has loads of events and fundraisers, and everyone really pitches in. The annual panda chase fundraiser, ice cream socials, and sheer number of events my kids were able to join made us instantly feel welcome. The teachers are fun and engaging (my oldest adores Ms. Lan!) and my kids have learned so much. Many kids walk to school, and its not uncommon to see families socializing outside of school. If you're looking for a school with a strong academic record, a welcoming environment, and a vibrant, engaged community, look no further!

My two kids attend Yick Wo, and we love it. My son is in 1st grade and my daughter is in 4th grade. We love our Yick Wo community and how great the teachers and staff are. Principal Sanchez is amazing and so devoted to our school community. We walk to school almost every day and couldn't imagine going to another school. The PTO is fabulous and organizes many fun social events and fundraisers throughout the year.

Our two boys attended Yick Wo and both had wonderful experiences. The education was excellent and the community is unmatched. Not only do we remain close friends with the families we met there, but the kids stay in touch with several of the teachers as well. Yick Wo is a true gem!!

The teachers, principals, and volunteers of the school are all very responsible for every student. Students of different races can blend together. Every year, cultural activities are organized in different regions to let students understand different cultures around the world. There are volunteers on campus or outside the campus after school to maintain the safety of students. The safety is very good. At the same time, this is a school with a 40-year history. It is really worth it for our children to study in this school.

Our family loves Yick Wo Elementary! It has such a great and welcoming community and is a wonderful place to learn and grow! The teachers and staff are passionate about helping our children learn in creative and fun ways. We are so lucky to have some additional classes like art, music and dance, gardening, library and outdoor PE made possible by our incredible parent organization. And our principal, Mr. Sanchez, is a dedicated and inspiring role model for the kids. Greeting them each morning and speaking to our school community to keep us informed and excited about the day!

We feel so fortunate to be part of this incredible school community for three years! Our daughter is thriving here, and it's largely due to the dedication and passion of the teachers and staff. Every day, they make learning exciting, engaging, and tailored to each student - it’s clear they genuinely care about each student's success and find fun ways to connect the curriculum with frequent local field trips. The principal is a true leader—fully involved and always accessible, ensuring that the school runs smoothly and that all students are supported (speaking from experience!). What really sets this school apart is the sense of community. The teachers, staff, and parents across grades know us by name, making it feel like we are part of a close-knit family. Whether it’s at drop-off, school events, or during casual interactions, we always find ourselves part of a friendly conversation or planning playdates. This level of community makes a huge difference in how comfortable and supported we feel as parents, and our daughter is thriving both academically and socially because of it. We take full advantage of all the resources available to us from morning and afternoon care to organized after school activities (tennis, soccer, chess etc.). We couldn’t imagine a better place for our child to learn and grow!

We love our little school and our little (but strong) community. I have never before seen a group of people come together in the way that this community has. From meal trains when my second child was born, volunteers to put together vibrant events, to showing up on weekends to water the garden. This truly is a neighborhood school. Our principal, Principal Sanchez, is an amazing leader, empathetic, and incredibly dedicated to ALL our students. And the teachers are all wonderful. I have not had a single complaint about any one of them. They go above and beyond creating safe spaces for my child to grow, meeting her where is at and always matching her needs and individual learning style. I highly recommend this school.

We love how wonderful all the teachers and staff are at Yick Wo. We feel like our 2nd grader is thriving and we couldn’t be happier with the school. The PTO is great too. So many parents volunteer in so many ways to give back to the school. It’s great to be in a small community where you can feel connected to everyone at the school.

When we searching for a school for our kindergartner, Yick Wo won our hearts with this special community, academic excellence, and amazing staff. I cannot say enough of how this school has our hearts and has embraced our kid with open arms. This experience has been everything we hoped and more. Looking forward to going through the next 5 years in this community.

This little gem of a school has been home away from home for my two daughters (now 5th and 8th grade). They were extremely priveldged to have enjoyed frequent outdoor school functions at the nearby Michaelangelo park, close access to the North Beach library down the street, and fully immerse themselves in local culture with field trips to Coit Tower and other neighborhood gems, like participating in the Chinese New Years Parade. If you are looking to have the experience of a sweet small school on a quiet residential street walking distance from your home, getting to wave to your neighbors and classmates on your way to school, and being part of an amazing close-knit community, then I highly recommend Yick Wo for you!

We are 9 year veterans of this school, with one graudate now in middle school and another currently enrolled in 4th grade. Yick Wo was our top choice in the lottery many years ago, and we have been extremely happy with our experience. Our children have had wonderful, caring and committed teachers who are totally invested in their development, happiness and education. The intimate environment is a huge plus. The parent community is wonderful, with so many connections made. Many families walk to school, and we see familiar faces at local parks and businesses. Both our kids and us as parents have made great friends. There are many afterschool options, including onsite enrichment and wonderful partner organizations like TelHi and Salesian's Boys and Girls Club. The Salesians program is an incredibly affordable option where our kids have met kids from other local public and parochial schools that have only increased our connections in the neighborhood.

Yick Wo es una comunidad amorosa y respetuosa, nosotros emigramos hace unos años y a pensar de que yo como padre no domino el idioma la comunidad de padres y el principal nos han orientado y ayudado en todo momento… es una comunidad multicultural.

Yick Wo has been wonderful for my family. Both my kids have thrived at this school. My son was behind coming out of the pandemic and received the encouragement and support he needed to catch up both academically and emotionally. It was really wonderful to see how close he was with his teachers throughout the years and I attribute much of his success to the love, care and mentorship they showed him. My youngest is still enrolled and loves learning and going to school. She is challenged appropriately and has built so much confidence. The teachers are communicative and are very experienced. I always think how lucky we've been that our neighborhood schools is so great. Lastly, the community is amazing!! There are various school sponsored events throughout the year (Panda Chase, Halloween parade, Movie Night, Auction) and plenty of informal opportunities to meet families (the yard in the morning, Fridays at Michelangelo). 3rd thru 5th grade have the opportunity to go to Salesian for after care, which is $10/year (yes, year!!) and offers organized sports that kids can join for free (volleyball, soccer, basketball, baseball) and brings many families together on the weekends to cheer on their teams. The younger kids tend to either stay on campus with the Y program or walk over to TelHi. My daughter loves TelHi as they offer a variety of activities including art and gardening.

We love Yick Wo! We have two boys going there right now. It’s our small neighborhood school in the very best sense of the word. We walk to school where families meet and walk together. We know the staff by names, and vice versa. Our principal knows every kid and very hands on. Our teachers always excel in providing the best education and social emotional support, accommodating the different levels of skills in the classroom. We are a tight community with high parents participation. I couldn’t be more proud to be a part of this community who looks out for one another, and came together in the toughest last 2 weeks, and overcame obstacles together. Highly recommend Yick Wo!!

Yick Wo Elementary is a wonderful school. The teachers and principal are incredibly dedicated and supported by a beautiful community of parents and caretakers. Yick Wo offers multiple opportunities for its students to feel successful and build self-confidence. They do this by offering a wide array of enrichment programs, such as additional PE, gardening, and art classes, that support the whole child and allow all students to thrive. Yick Wo celebrates and fosters diversity at all levels. We could not be happier to attend such a fabulous school in our own neighborhood.

My daughter is in kindergarten at Yick Wo this year and we couldn’t be happier with the schools. Very diverse and inclusive community, dedicated and knowledgeable teachers and wonderful principal and parents’ community. We are very impressed with both the academics and the socio-emotional learning. The small school and tight community help making friends easily and getting to know kids, parents and teacher from other grades too. We would definitely recommend this school!

I can’t imagine not having listed Yick Wo as the first school I applied to through SFUSD for my child. My daughter was very shy and struggled to make new friends. As an immigrant family, we were quite isolated, especially during quarantine. That’s why I chose Yick Wo. This small community school truly cares about every student! My daughter, who used to be a shy 8-year-old, has now become very outgoing and social. She has many friends and makes new ones easily. When her class got a new student, all the 3rd graders welcomed the kid warmly. I can’t believe how much positive energy this school has. It’s not just a school; it’s a village that helps raise our kids together.During summer break, my daughter missed Yick Wo so much. She’s so happy now because she can go to school every weekday.
