I am an interdistrict transfer parent. Of my two years at Lau, I have to point out some of the pros and cons of attending this school. Pros1. Great after school programs: Yes all the after school programs are within walking distance. Cameron house, YMCA, Chinese schools like Cumberland, Nam Kue, etc. All these after school programs will have a staff come to pick your kids up so you won't have to walk them over and some programs are free too.2. They have a extracurricular teachers like: PE, Dance, and Music (possibly more)3. Food was free: Breakfast, Lunch, Snack and Supper was free (as long as they are able to extend their free lunch program).4. Teachers are great and they care a lot about every student.5. There is a muni station building on the same block.6. They really try to help kids who are struggling with reading and math. They will spend extra times with teachers outside of classroom to close the learning gap.7. Driving to Chinatown 5 days a week wasn't too much of a struggle. They have a loading zones and staff that will help guide your kid to the right direction to get to class. Parking is not necessary at all.8. School starts at 8:40am.9. There's a ton of shops in Chinatown that needs my support so I love to shop around whenever I can. (After drop off and before pick up).Cons1. It's a small school but it is very crowded there.2. When it's time to go to class, the hallways are filled with people. Not sure if this a good thing because of the lack of social distancing.3. Kids who don't need help might not get the attention one needs because their main focus is to close the learning gap, Your kid who is doing OK will not get the attention to become great. 4. Not a diverse schoolConclusion:I like Lau Elementary because of their free lunch and super convenient after school programs. I rarely have to park. All i do is just drop off and go. I take 280 to get to Chinatown and I rarely run into traffic problems early in the morning. This is a school with staff that had many years running the school. The assemblies and meetings they conduct shows they are well experienced and well organized.

I love this school so much! This school was the best one that I went to I had so many good teachers there and I loved the parade.

I went to this school and all of the teachers are really nice! They really care about you! There are many activities too!
