10/10 Mckay is a great high school.

Staff and teachers are better than most schools...but...they do allow a lot of bullying, especially from the athletes. They also go to great lengths to cover up what really goes on in the school...like kids bringing guns to school...and the public isn't informed...hush hush....when push comes to shove they will get things done...but why make parents get angry to get results?

I graduated on June 8th of 2012. I attended McKay my entire 4 years of high school and i can honestly say that it is not a dangerous school and that its just like any other school but the public is just always looking at what we are doing and publicize us more that the other high schools because we are expected to fail by many but our class, we feel like we changed the school alot in a good way and honestly i am proud to say I graduated from McKay High School. The teachers will stay many hours after school even when they are not being paid just to help out their students. I am disappointed that the culinary program was taken away because it was one of the programs that would get so many students involved with the community and Mrs.Barton the culinary teacher is one of the best teachers that has worked at McKay and a lot of students saw her as a role model and for some of us she was like a second mom. A lot of us cried when she left McKay and we miss her and had to go thru our last year, Senior year without our favorite class and without our favorite teacher.

i am a freshmen at Mckay this is my first year and its a good school. i heard about people getting into fights and doing drugs and taking weapons to school. yeah some of it is true but that doesn't mean that every student is doing it. maybe what 2 out of 10 students are doing it. i think that our test scores are pretty average, i say this because if you look at our school we are the most bi racial and yes it hard to pass a test if you grew up learning a different language but i bet if you were to give a Spanish test to all the schools in the Salem Keizer school district Mckay would shine. so please don't judge Mckay if you haven't been there.
